Hello, everyone.  I was born with scoliosis.  I had a Harrington Rod put in my spine at age 11 and I am now 49 (almost 50).  I have been struggling with pains in my lower back for about 8 years now.  My spine doctor told me that the 2 bottom discs are deteriorating and that I am slowly getting an athritis in my tailbone.  Everyday, I managed to stay strong.  But, sometimes it can be hard in dealing with the pain while I am at work.  I now work 1 or 2 days doing food service.  Which I think that is enough for me.  I have a 2nd job working remotely from home.  I am very glad that I don't have to do a lot of standing at my 1st job.  I am trying to be strong as possible.


I was wondering how you handle with your scoliosis in your everyday life?

I was dx at age 18. its super mild.. (Under 5% curve) and hadn't been checked for many years. At age 36 I waa experiencing a ton of lower back pain and hip issues so I had it all checked the curve didn't change. I have early onset spiral arthritis, 3 herniated disks and a tear in the soft tissue of my hip.
I talked to my Dr about pain management, and with physical therapy have been having an easier time with the pains
Check with your physician if physical therapy will help or if there is another pain management option that will work for you.

Hi, Froggie83... Sorry to hear about your lower back pain and hip issues. Glad you got the help with different doctors. I have seen Pain Management and I gotten a shot for my lower back which it helped me a lot. Thank goodness.

I'm gonna be honest, I barely handle it. I have over a 50% curve and was supposed to get surgery at 16 (I'm 19, almost 20 now) but was unable to (life circumstances and all that). I barely have any medical support/help for it, my spine is twisted, I've had herniated discs since I was 11, and my sciatic is compressed. It's constant pain and all I have is motrin and tylenol. I just sleep a lot and rest my back however and whenever I can. Sometimes warm showers help. But I'm so sorry that you're experiencing that pain and I hope you get care for it.
