I am a 53 year old mom who wore a Milwaukee Brace for my scoliosis. When my now 27 year old daughter was 6 years old I noticed a curve in her spine. Within a month or so she was placed in a Rosenberger Brace. Both of us were able to do pretty much everything we normally did, including sports. I remember the day I got my first brace the doctor told my parents I would be tired because my muscles would be beginning to move in a way or direction they we not accustomed, hence the purpose of the brace. I was a little achy the first day, took some tylenol and a nap. A pillow would be great for your daughter. The only thing I see is that your daughter will have to adjust getting down to the floor and getting back up, only minor things. Depending on her brace, your daughter may have to find a comfortable position to sleep at night, on her back or side. I am in the process of finalizing a very comfortable back brace undergarment. What a positive and hopeful response. Such uncharted territory for us. So thrilled to hear that the transition for both you and your daughter was fairly smooth. I was thinking on of those meditating bolster pillows might be good at school for sitting on in circle time.
And once we learn what our treatment plan is (though I suspect bracing, would love to hear more about your undergarments, I imagine they are essential).

My daughter was diagnosed at 6 years old also and is now 10. She is now on her 3rd brace. although it's hasn't been easy, our experience hasn't been that bad and you will get used to it. She sleeps and go to school in her brace and then takes it off and goes to dance everyday which she loves. She had similar curves like your daughter, one measurement a little worse. She wore a Boston brace for 2 years which did it's job and decreased the curve a couple degrees. We then switched to the rigo brace which dramatically improved her curve. She is now at 11 and 16 degrees out of brace.. However, she's just approaching her big growth spurt so I'm a little nervous. I just wanted to say you will get through this and your life can still be happy. I highly recommend bracing and recent studies show there's a good chance you can avoid surgery if compliant. Most importantly, you get to keep your beautiful daughter.

My 13 yr old daughter changed to the Rigo brace within the last 2 months and her in-brace x-ray shows a 20 degree drop in her main curve! We are excited about this big change and hoping it will improve further in the next 6 months. She continues to do Schroth exercises as well. I think that has helped a lot. Hope your little girl has adjusted to her brace and is enjoying her athletics. My daughter dances and runs. She doesn't feel limited in any way. All the very best to you and your little girl.
