Schizophrenia is a psychiatric diagnosis that describes a mental disorder characterized by impairments in the perception of reality and by significant social dysfunction. Untreated schizophrenia is typically characterized by demonstrating disorganized thinking and experiencing delusions or auditory hallucinations.
I'm new here and I really am hoping someone can help me. I'm not currently on any meds for schiz. I was on Seroquel and Xanax for night hallucinations and severe anxiety.
Every night is the same thing with me. I start thinking there is a spirit in the room with me. I feel my hair stand on end and I get really cold. I think they are grabbing me, watching me, and standing on my head or messing with my hair. My head tingles and I can feel something touching it. This all TERRIFIES me, It's almost impossible for me to sleep. I beg my husband to hold me and I hold my dog on the other side of me. My symptoms went away for awhile, but they came back with a vengeance. The whole thing with spirits started because the old house I lived in was filled with them. Real ones.. my husband saw them and photographed them. I have some pictures of them all around me. We moved over a year ago and I think I'm just super paranoid. The whole spirit thing is a trigger for my symptoms and I'm tired of going to sleep in pure terror every night. They say my name and whisper other things to me. I hear sounds all over my room. I'm just so scared. Nothing works unless I have Xanax or another medication to calm me down.
I have Lupus and I know psychosis is a part of the disease, but because of the Lupus I need to get sleep. If I don't then I get very sick. I'm currently trying to find a doctor in the city that I live, but it'snot easy. I'm waiting to hear back from one. They make it where you can't even schedule an appointment without filling out all this paperwork. UGH.
Does anyone have any advice on how to make it through the night or how to calm down? In the back of my mind i feel these things are real.. but the other half of me says they aren't. Frustrated.

I dont have this disease but a friend of mine does, a long time friend. I posted a post with a title "i didnt know" its right below your post on the main page. Can you read it?
He too feels spirits and takes photos of them. I dont quite understand the disease or even if this is part of the disease cause there have been a few times when i too hear my name called and only one occasion last year i felt someone touch my head, actually it felt like they hit it to get my attention. I am not sure i believe in the supernatural but really who knows.
I am sorry you are going through this but also i am glad you recognize it. What makes you recognize your disease and others not recognize it and blame in on a doctor wrong diagnosis. How come some people cant see their delusional thoughts?
As far as a doctor... you should just walk in to an office. They cannot turn you away. You need to be seen because you need medication ASAP right? I used to work in benefits at my old company for over 5 years. Let me know if you need any help finding a doctor under your insurance.
All i would need is the name of your insurance and the city you are looking. also what type of doctor would one see for this.
Have you tried exercising at night before bed? That usually wakens your body then you get real tired. Perhaps walking on a treadmill or around your neighborhood with your hubby and dog.
At night when you are laying down, tell your thoughts that they are lying to you. I get scared of the dark from time to time and unknown noises so i have to do this too.
