Hi everyone.
I have schizophrenia and I was in a state hospital last year and they released me to my own apartment and I have a car which my parents help me with and I attend a day program mon-fri. I am having problems finding happiness lately and I have trouble doing my own laundry and my apartment is always a mess. I drive a lot aimlessly and it makes me feel like I have too much freedom and sometimes I miss days of program because like I said I have too much freedom. My lease is up in June and I just recently had the idea of maybe going to a group home because I feel that I might need more care and I also get really lonely living on my own. I have been living in my own apartment since June 25th 2015. I feel that I am not happy and that something has to change. I would also like to move closer to my parents house. I also love to crochet and I do that in my spare time. What should I do? Any advice on how to find happiness?

I can't tell you what to do but I can tell you what has worked for me.
I live alone. I have since my wife's death, for the last 3 years. I rapturously love it. I love having my own space, setting my own rules and bedtimes, not having to tiptoe around anyone, not having to follow anyone else's rules, and being able to control my own mess level.
Some people like living alone and other's don't. When I lived alone in my twenties I was heartbreakingly lonely and later moved in with people as roommates to save money and have friends again. Now that I am older I enjoy spending most of my time alone.
As much as I love having my own apartment and would recommend it to any mentally ill person as a good way to have autonomy, stability, control over your own life, and enough solitude to be as batshit crazy as you may need to be, if you can afford it, only you know if you need a heavier level of care.
If you are not happy then it may be time to make a change. Only you can make that decision. i would just add the caveat that once you lose the apartment of your own it may be harder to get another one when you decide that you do want that. I don't know your situation tho.

My advice is to find out which ones you might be able to join and ask them for info about how to get in and maybe a tour.
Also if you have a care coordinator or case manager or social worker, talk to them about this since you may need funding.
