Schizophrenia is a psychiatric diagnosis that describes a mental disorder characterized by impairments in the perception of reality and by significant social dysfunction. Untreated schizophrenia is typically characterized by demonstrating disorganized thinking and experiencing delusions or auditory hallucinations.
I am just wondering how I can help my boyfriend more. He is 26 with SZ. He is wonderful, and I adore him.
I have Major Depressive Disorder, and Panic Disorder, but both are VERY well managed. I am just happy and supportive, and feel supported with him.
I did tell him, and it goes for both of us.. that a deal breaker would be if he stopped taking his meds or stopped going to the doctor. I told him that I would adhere to the same thing.
I do wish he would share with me more of what is in his head. He told me he tries not to talk about Jesus too much, because he thinks it weirds me out. I told him that I am happy to talk about it, he just has to hear my side also.
What could I do to be a better girlfriend? Are there any signs I should watch for? We have a very open and honest relationship. We did meet while hospitalized. I was vol, he was in-vol. We met over four months ago, and tried to deny the immediate chemistry we felt. The second we met, he went from flat.. to full of life.. to the point he was talking to a lawyer to have his Baker act 2 removed.. after 3 days of talking together, they let him go without court.
He does not like to talk about when we were there, because for him.. he has been there two times since we've met. For me, it was my first time. I feel so much better afterwards.. and it's where I met my love. He said I was the only miracle to come out of there. I keep trying not to, but I think when I even bring up my own disorder.. it worries him a lot. He said it reminds him of where we met, and how flat he was.

But what you have done so far is very loving and you needn't "deal" with it if he continues to sabotage his and your love.
He tried to chastise me over random stuff last night. This morning he apologized. He was afraid that he would wind up in the hospital. I don't see myself dumping him. Have you ever felt that your SO was conspiring against you? He has never accused me of this, he actually told me I help keep him out of his head. I really love him, and just want him to be healthy.
I know no one is a complete outline of a diagnosis, but I fear he thinks he can be completely "cured" through faith. I am going to do everything I can to make sure we are ok!
On the "Jesus" note...I found going back to church gave me a source of strength, solace, and support (and alliteration, right? Hee hee hee! ).
It also gave me a stronger conviction when dealing with the affliction God bestowed me with.
Then again, it took a special woman to invite me to church. I'm about to pop the question to her after a year, that's how much of a positive it's been!
I don't know what faith you adhere to, angeltart, and that's not mine to worry about nor pass judgment on. If you haven't gone to church with him yet, that could be an avenue to consider. I recommend this as a SZ who's found a healing place, and I'm not proselytizing in any way.
