I have a good friend that has diabetes and has a permanent insulin pump. He was diagnosed with schizophrenia recently and doesn't like the medication he's on. Does anyone have any suggestions for other medications or treatments that I could give him cause he's getting very frustrated. Thank you! Have a blessed day!

Wow that's a really tough situation. I think most if not all of the antipsychotic medications mess with sugar levels in the blood.

My psychiatrist said pretty much the same thing to me also.

But I know that Ablify has the blood sugar warning in it's reported side effects so definately stay away from that one.

Sorry I can't provide much else for help. Make sure to only accept the LOWEST EFFECTIVE DOSE. The higher the dosage, the worse the side effects are.

I have type 1 diabetes and I have been taking Geodon. It doesn't raise my blood sugar. I was on Latuda and it really did raise my blood sugar. Since I started Geodon I've had pretty good blood sugar numbers. Your friend might want to bring it up to his doctor.
