I keep kicking this around and looking for feedback from anyone whos been or is in this situation or any other thoughts. I have reasonably well managed depression and paranoid schizophrenia and I generally function well under my own power, but still have my moments, nothing a reality check and feedback wouldnt take care of. I interact with my neighbors, I enjoy being outside and only two know Im in early retirement.

Since joining a dating service, I decided to mention the depression and inferred another mental issue; my reasoning being if you cant or dont want to deal with it, then that saves everyone time, opportunity and grief. Others Ive talked to say I should mention it only once women get to know me and if things turn more serious. But then one might feel betrayed or lying by omission. Which is not a good way to start a relationship

I know this well and am in the same boat my psychosis is almost nonexistent these days. While the depression is noticeable some days more than others it is relatively stable. I still tend to date patients rather then outside in the real world and worry on losing any friendships by disclosing too much. I guess all you really can do is play it by ear on what you do say and try not to go on first reactions when you do. It is hard one but there was a girl I met a long time go that an exGf and I did disclose to and turned out the girl had had a hospital stay herself in her late teens. I have had a few similar experiences since.

good question, i would say that putting it out there and being up front is your best way of dealing with this. honesty is valued high in relationships, if not the most important.
with this disability, i imagine your going to have to look for someone that is capable of excepting you as you are. and i feel that being open right away will help to weed out those that really would not want you at all if they knew, and help to narrow your field, towards women that you probably would want to have a real caring relationship with...:):):)

I think you shouldn't put it on your dating profile. Don't talk about it until you know the person better and they know you. And don't make a bigger deal about it than it already is, otherwise they may panic and leave you abruptly.
