Abilify maybe or Geodon? Abilify is known to not be so sedating.. just watch out for akathisia, but most patients do not get that. Risperdal did not make me particularly tired, but I was only on 3mg and Cogentin with it.

Oh and Abilify is also considered weight neutral.

Ive tried abilify, it made me crazy paranoid and super tired.

Abilify made me wired as hell and I had severe akathisia. I looked like I was going insane - well I was with akathisia. Before the akathisia kicked in on oh say day 3 or 4 I remember I was super happy. Maybe try Geodon? Saphris is new and I am not sure available where you are - but it makes me tired, supposedly it is not supposed to make you hungry either (although I dunno about all that as I am still weaning off good ole Seroquel which makes me hungry) There is always Zyprexa (which is notorious for weight gain, same with Seroquel - although you can take Topamax with it if you are schizoaffective and it can help with hunger issues) then there is Clozaril - I dunno about that drug never took it.. oh there is another new antipsychotic drug out called illoperidone, aka Fanapt - never tried it though..

Fanapt supposedly is good for not making you really tired or making you gain weight. - if you find you are gaining weight and not eating differently, maybe get a thyroid panel done? Someone on the bipolar board who is also on antipsychotics recommended metformin - you could bring that up? Have you had your blood sugar tested? For tiredness on antipsychotics (and you have to be careful if you also have bipolar as it can possibly make you manic-y) I have heard of people taking Provigil or Nuvigil..

I gained 85 lbs on zypreta.......yes I wish I weighed 125-130 again but that is not going to happen. I also suffer bad atkasisa from it but haven't been recommended to take cogentin...I am on clonzepam for severe anxiety. I guess it doesn't help that I really don't see a doctor. I hate this mental illness.....

ifairy - how can you deal with that? I couldn't - I had to be taken off of the offending antipsychotics at the hospital and I wanted to just die. It's torture... It was stand up sit down stand up sit down, pace pace pace pace pace, feelings of intense doom and the world will end (crazy anxiety) can I slam my head into a wall please to make it stop?? Anyways - yea that is how my akathisia was.. & I had it like that on Abilify, Geodon, and Invega (Risperdal too, but not nearly as bad)

I think all the antipsychotics have the potential for weight gain, it is just finding one that works best with the least amount of weight gain.
