*sigh..i dont even know where to begin! well my best friend of four years has schizophrenia for the last few months she has had these two "voices" a male and a female (one is good and one is bad) in her head have been talking more than they ever have before. shes been on risperidone for the last two yrs but since her "voices" got worse the dr. has taken her off of risperidone and put her on Quetiapine. shes been on Quetiapine for about a month. Today out of the blue she told me she has been thinking horrible things about me n that the voices in her heard are defending me.. then she told me she is jealous of me and that might be why she is having bad thoughts about me. when she told me this i was totally shocked! i have always felt comfortable around her like i can be myself and now i cant imagine hanging out with her again.. i would feel so self conscience. she told me she still wants to be friends but if i dont want to be she would understand.. idk what to do. I dont know much about schizophrenia and im not sure if what she is going through is normal or is it just an excuse? is it possible to think horrible things about people you care about? i cant see how thats possible but then again i dont have schizophrenia..

I would stay friends with her. Everybody needs friends and its probably the hard time she is going through that is making her think funny things about people. With mental illness when things get bad it is typical that the patient starts to see close friends or family in a bad light. I think because they are so close it hurts the patient and that is one of the reasons being mentally ill is so hard. Relationships suffer but with understanding can last. Poor girl. She is just having a hard time and will hopefully get better with the medication change in a few months. Sounds like she needs a friend no mater what she says because the illness is hard to go through alone.

ok thx for the reply. i would like to stay friends with her shes one of the only friends i have.. i would just feel uncomfortable if shes having bad thoughts about me but maybe they will stop, ill see how it goes. maybe im just taking it too personal..

When I was going through one psychotic break, I was sure my husband (and a large group of people) were watching, persecuting me, trying to get me to go to trial for something I didn't know I did. He stood by my side and waited until I said, OK, it's time to go to the hospital. I'm SO GLAD my husband didn't just walk out on me.

When I was getting over delusions I almost disowned my entire family. Now I'm OK and thank goodness I didn't. My point is that people can have very aversive thoughts during delusions. Don't take it personally.

And if you stick with her, she may end up as a very valuable friend because she will see that you didn't dessert her even when times were really bad.
