Sorry to y'all for not being here for a while.but some great things have happened finally. My sleep doctor put me on a new medication called Nuvigil. At first I didn't feel a difference but my doctor upped the dose . Now I feel great like more energy. The only thing that I'm worried about is that it's addicting. I asked the doctor if it was and he said no but after I bought the prescription I read the instructions and they said it's a federally controlled substance. I spoke to another doctor and he said we are not supposed to know that it's addicting. This can be bad news because I'm a former addict. I used to abuse marijuana and prescription pain killers. I haven't abused it even once. The one thing I can do for a strategy is exercise in place of the medication when I'm waiting for the prescription to be filled. It sometimes takes a few days to get filled cause it has to go through the pharmacy, the doctors office, and the insurance company. Sometimes I go through a tremendous amount of guilt...but if it's working good....then maybe I should stick to it. I was falling asleep at the wheel and if I didn't have my co-worker with me I probably would have wrecked my car on my way home from work. I also worry a lot when I"m waiting for it to get filled. Sometimes I feel like I'm being a pain in the butt when I'm calling them...I'm very impatient. Would someone please share their opinion.?
As for driving - if you're falling asleep at the wheel, that a BIG NO-NO! You shouldn't be driving. My doc put me on a higher dose of gabapentin and I fell asleep mid-conversation with my hubby. I would never drive like that! If you feel ANY hesitation in driving, DON'T do it. The last thing you want is to get into a terrible accident or get pulled over by the police.
If you're concerned at all about getting addicted to this particular medicine, talk to your pdoc about it. You shouldn't be worrying so much. It increases cortisol levels in your body and makes you stress out more.
