Sometimes it can take a few weeks for changes to happen. Some medications require more time that others to take effect.

Keep a eye on him, and if you soon do not see any change in him, bring him back to the doctor.

Some meds may work for some people, but not for others. He may possibly have to try other meds to find the right one for him.

I went through half a dozen meds before I found the one that worked best for me.

Hang in there! The change will come with time.

It'll seem like forever, but sometimes the right combination of medications and therapies isn't found for a few months. Just be sure you listen and really hear. Sometimes when over medicated, it's hard to reach out for help unless someone is paying very close attention.

Thanks all of you for replying. I know it takes time, I just don't want him to sink any further than he has. Within a 2 week period he has lost his girlfriend for which they have a two month old together. He went from being happy to this person I don't know. He had an emergency dr appt yesterday. They changed one of his meds, Klonopin to Valium. The Zyprexa was keeping him in constant motion. They say it is a side effect of the drug. The valium seems to help, for now. I just hope that it takes hold soon. I watch him like a hawk for any changes, rather anymore than that have already happened. My goal right now is not to loose him and my sanity...

Soulkiss that side effect is called akathisia, it is a nasty side effect *some* antipsychotics have. I had it on 4 antipsychotics before we found 2 others that I do not have it on. There are meds to help control it - like cogentin and valium may help a little. But for me on 3 antipsychotics I had akathisia with no meds would help. The only thing that worked for me was stopping the offending med and trying another one. It can be very severe and you feel like you are crawling out of your skin - and so much anxiety, well it was worse than anxiety. Torture really - here is more about it:

Amalzahir, you hit it right on the head. He tells me it feels like he is crawling out of his skin. The Valium, he tells me, is helping. He takes .75mg 3xd a day, along with Zyprexa and Remeron for sleep. Right now he is in one of his so so moods. As opposed to yesterday it seemed as if nothing was wrong. Is cycling apart of this or just apart of the ups and downs that go along with it
