I haven't read anything advising against massage. I know from experience that my muscles and joints were very tender and achy from years on Prednisone and inactivity due to limited lung capacity. Unless her doctor advises against it, I guess all you can do is see how much pressure she can withstand.

You might want to consult with her physician before you work on her just to make certain whether any aspects of her condition might present a problem. If she has a lot of swelling in the lymph nodes, that may be one area that you might need more guidance. Also, depending on how long this person has been on steroids, there may be bone loss or bone problems, so it would not be a good idea to do any walking on their back, neck manipulations or other hard manipulations--the more gentle techniques, the better.

I used to get deep tissue all the time before getting sarc. Now I can only tolerate a very light touch. It's a wonderful option and I think helps a great deal. I would touch base with the doc and if he approves it just have her tell you what she can tolerate.

Normally my wife and sisters massages do me the world of good for a couple of days. However, I have recently a very sympathetic sports Therapist. When my fatigue gets to the point where my head would rather hit the table than work. I have called her up the treatments i have recieved made me feel fantastic. Whilst normally my Sarc makes me feel restricted, after treatment my body feels alive and ready to do a marathon. The trick is to discuss with the therapist/patient/customer what you want and how their Sarc is affecting them. If ypour the therapist all i would say is to do a bit of research in to how your individual is affected. This whilst expensive is the best thing i do for me.

I have a support group for sarcoidosis patients in Northern Caloifornia. We had a nurse come to our meeting and she mentioned that we should be careful when getting a massage. We should have a therapeutic massages, instead of the ones that are at the spa. She said the spa massages may flare up the sarcoidosis, inflammation. They are not for sure, but better to be safe. More gentle massages would be better, than the vigorous type.

I found this thread really interesting because my sarcoid has been in remission for almost 2 years. I recently had a trial workout on a power plate (trying to improve my fitness level) and I am wondering whether it has'awakened' my dormant sarc. Some may say it is the detox effect and I should persevere but the fatigue I feel makes me very wary
