I have ocular rosacea as well. My opthamalogist has given me several things to do to help my eyes and prescriptions. I use eyelid cleanser wipes, warm compress, eyelid massage, over the counter moisturizing drops and Restasis. At times she has had me use cortisone ointment and other drops. It is important to seek treatment so your eyes don't sustain damage due to the dryness. Good luck. Mine are better but still not comfortable most of the time. I live for moisturizing eye drops.

Thanks for the info. I have been treated for blephoritis and dry eye for a long time. It doesn't sound much different except for the cortisone ointment. Are you plagued by styes? I have had 2 lately and that is new for me. Do tetracycline pills help?

I took tetracycline at first but not anymore. I have had dry eyes and complained to eye doctors for many years. My newest eye doctor has made it her personal mission to help. I have the blephoritis and meibomian gland blockage. She, my doctor, has tried the punctal plugs but they don't stay in or irritate my eyes too much. I used to get styes frequently but lately I haven't. The warm compresses and massage may alleviate that particular problem. Or the styes may have been blockage in the meibomian gland all along. She also had me start taking Omega 3s.

Do you also have facial rosacea? Mine is only the red face variety, not the pimples.

I have Rosacea. It was out of control for awhile, but without the eye issues. Last year, I had a horrible flare that I am trying to get under control. My face gets fire engine red as do my eyes. I get up to 60 or so blemishes sometimes. My neck and chest are red and itchy at times. The eye redness started with this flare up and I now get blemishes on my lids. My brother has ocular rosacea also and just lives with it. He quit treatment because he said nothing worked. He just uses over the counter drops for the dryness. Anyway, I use Mirvaso and Metrogel on my face. I use steroid cream on my neck and chest. And lubricating drops for my eyes as well as a baby shampoo scrub on my lids and lash margins. The dermatologist wanted me to take tetracycline as I did last time I had a big problem, but I had just come off of a 4 month antibiotic treatment for a severe urinary tract infection which gave me all kinds of issues. I go back next month and guess I will have to do the tetracycline. I do take the Omega 3, vitamin D and probiotics as well as eye vitamins and lutien.

It's no fun finding something to help. Ask your dermatologist for samples of products, they might have some and it beats buying whole bottles. My eye doctor is great about doing this with eye drops and she always has coupons. the drops are still pretty expensive though. But if you can't use something it's better than buying a whole bottle. Good luck. I also find that using a humidifier in the bedroom helps a bit.

Went back to the dermatologist. A new script for tetracycline, some eye drops and steroid cream for the rash on my neck and chest. I hope to get this under control.

for me the omega 3's make the biggest difference, I do the compresses and the artificial tears, but I notice when I miss a few days of fish oil for whaterever reason, I really notice a differencer especially with blurry vision and tearing. When my eye doc prescribed fish oil, he said it would either work or it wouldn't - no one he has ever suggested it to has a so-so experience, it seems to work wonders for some people and does nothing for others. He said the theory behind it is that it changes the composition of your tears and with the added oil you body is able to unplug the tear ducts easier as well as the oilier tears help the tears remain on your eyes vs. running down your face.
