Options:

#1. The cast comes off tomorrow

#2. It needs another week (possibly even more? - not sure about that possibility?) but the surgeon commented THREE TIMES that my bones were "very soft" - meaning osteoporosis. AND this ankle has been badly damaged by RA previously and I had been told I needed an ankle fusion. Wore AFO leg braces for 10 years until it fused without surgery.

After the cast comes off, moon boot for how long I don't know (a week? 2?) until I can put full weight on it and actually WALK with the boot and get on a plane. I'll find out answers to all (I hope) tomorrow! Also have an apt. with a PT Monday.

If you pray - please do, no matter to whom. Fingers crossed, sending good vibes and good thoughts my way - all APPRECIATED!

The silver lining is that the longer i'm here the better the weather will get back home where they are being hit with yet another bad storm.

I'm in a boot and was told I could apply weight as I feel comfortable doing so and back off if I feel pain.

It may seem weird - but it's SCARY. I have had such thoughts of never walking again.

Not going to do much until physiotherapist comes Monday morning with crutches. As of now - just letting it touch the floor while I'm sitting.

I'm not going to rush and will not get on a plane until i can WALK because the will provide a wheelchair to my seat but I will have to get to the toilet myself and i'm not good on crutches... so, I want to be able to actually WALK before I fly. Another week to 10 days here is what I'm thinking.

"Walked" for 20 minutes using both feet while sitting in the wheelchair and actually stood on both feet for a couple of seconds 2 times with no pain!

PT is coming TODAY! Looking into flights home in one week!!

You will be so happy to get home, there's no place like it!
It's a shame that your time here in New Zealand was ruined by this but at least you got to see your family. Have a safe trip home.

I walked down a long corridor and back with the walker and the PT behind me. No pain! Pleased with my progress and looking into booking a flight home in about 10 days!!
