Rheumatoid Arthritis Support Group
Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic, inflammatory, multisystem, autoimmune disorder. It is a disabling and painful condition which can lead to substantial loss of mobility due to pain and joint destruction. The disease is also systemic in that it often also affects many extra-articular tissues throughout the body including the skin, blood vessels, heart, lungs, and...
I also sometimes use compression gloves that cover half-way up my fingers (covers the PIP joints) and just past my wrist. I find those easy to use when using the computer -- more so than a brace.
Also find out if heat or cold helps you, and you can find braces or splints that have an ice pack or heat pack you can put inside.
I found the compression gloves all hype (marketing wise) and useless to soothing me in any way. if they work for you that would be great. let me know which ones you get. MD wrote scripts inside the teaching hospitals and was fitted by occupational therapists for soft (daytime) and harder (nighttime) resting splints. BUT I found that the soft splints that i purchased at CVS were better than the ones covered under the insurance (funny huh?)
My rheumatologist also referred me within her practice to her hand orthopaedic and he injected steroids hand wise which were helpful.
finally if you worked out in your day and you have lifting gloves around (those hand things that wrap around the wrist) i work those into the equation also - they are bulky - but i leave a set in the garage for emergency. I have the amazon heat/ice things that slip inside the gloves - but the gloves are bulky and I use those applications when I am resting - at work they worked in a staff meeting but not at a terminal. for work work at my desk, I needed the cheap ones at cvs the lightweights that could stay on the entire day.
sorry feel better
