So i guess when things go bad they can go really bad.
Yesterday was a firemen fundraiser, it was a truck show where i was running the kitchen. It was going fine until there were more cooks in the kitchen so i walked out. i should have stayed home but the president of the fd came over and talk to me and i went back to the kitchen. The issue was fixed.
Well fifteen minutes later, i am making more hoagie patties and i dropped a frozen patty into a pile of grease that i didn't see. So it splashed back onto my palm and arm.
So my stepdad came and got me and tool me to the ER, in the fire squad as he didnt want to take his work van to the ER. We get to the ER, he drops me off at the front entrance and goes to park. He comes in 2 seconds later looking for a fire extinguisher cuz the squad car is on fire, specifically under my seat where i was sitting, the tranny fluid was leaking onto the whatchama call it. I dont know names of car parts.
Flash forward. i have Deep second degree burns along my arm, and some not so thick, as you can see from teh pics below. note they arent exactly pretty but it shows where the burns are the best.

Needless to say, I have to call my rheumy tomorrow to see if i can get my infusion next week or what since i have this major risk for infection area. And i go up to the burn clinic tomorrow for it to be cleaned and assessed by those specially trained in the whole burn deal.
Can i please have a do over?

but I thought I might tell you that I kind of did the same thing a couple years ago when I was waxing my eyebrows and by the way what the hell is a frozen hoagie? you know trying to save $10 bucks at the salon? well I let the wax pot BLOW UP in the microwave and to make matters worse when the microwave door cracked I reached in for the pot. s t u p i d, I know but I had bad burns on my hand. you don't need the rheumie to tell you, that you can't have your infusion or biologic. you have to heal first.
i was amazed at how fast I healed. I had antibiotic and I had that burn cream crap go slather, is it zinc?
good luck at the clinic with the follow up.
scars give us character....story wise i think the hoagie has it over the wax, maybe.

Trust me you dont have to look its quite icky looking.
I just dislike the entire thing, it tender in places, doesnt hurt in others. I cant sleep well. I just want a do over.

however i have had to withdraw from the nursing program for the semester and return next year after my hand heals.
It sucks and im bummbed but meh.
My daughter just had her second visit the the wound & burn center from yep bacon grease. Visiting her friends someone left pan on after cooking bacon, grabs the metal handle & drops it after discovering how hot it was. Grease pours over & cooks the top of her hand, finger & Palm. Skin fried right off the one part. Her palm looked very much like your pics.
Very painful. To top it off she was over 2 hrs away from us.
ER did nothing. Said dr looked for 30 seconds, soaked, wrapped, gave her an oral pain med with short script telling her to follow up with PCP right away. Has no PCP in area as she's finishing up her education. all young 21-23 yr olds. Had police give breathalyzers as this was like 2:00-3:00 AM. As she's sobbing she's given a breathalyzer. Of course they all passed had me furious. As I was on the phone while she took it.
I can tell you burndr put her on anti biotics as precaution. Used a burn ointment, sure you may have same one. New one out suppose to work better just picked it up. Took a bit to get & shocked insurance covered. Hand bandaged & changed daily. Really drains some days so dressing changed some times twice. Dr focused on keeping it clean. Daycare teacher so no work for I think first 10 days. Even covered the did not want to chance. Wants her to keep hand & fingers moving no matter what.
FYI dr had us call to see if insurance covered supplies. Ours did not.
I'm not sure what ointment you have but if you'd like I'll get the name of the new one. Burn doctor stated it would work better.
Her arm swelled from the burn, which as you know really increased the pain. So anti inflammatory really helped with that.
It's been almost 3 wks & healing well with one small area including index finger primary focus for significant burn scarring.
How strange with the 2 of you. Wait till I tell her. Home for wk end because of appoinment with burn center Friday.
Take good care of that burn. With prinmary focus on infection I'd think your RA treatment would be on hold.
I'm sure my daughter will completely sympathize with you.

My hand is bandaged with a special silver infused foam pad that can stay on for multiple days, so they put it on Tuesday and i will go to the burn clinic tuesday for dressing changes. Otherwise the cream teh ER gave me was SSD.
The pain has gone down signifigantly. I just am dreading Tuesdays cleaning and dressing change...im also worried to see how it looks.
When they remove the dead skin is when the pain is the worse, since they are exposing the tender under layers to air.
I have deep partial thinkness to full thickness in some places. Total bummer, but its healing/
Yeah my doc asked me to hold off at least until the skin has closed or mostly closed for me to take my RA meds.
I'm still extremely bummed about school.
They numbed the hand before removing the skin. Applied some kind of lidoderm oinment popped any blisters . This the dr said would actually help.
Bled a lot & hurt after for a bit , in fact had some bleeding before. Which doc said was a very good sign. Told her what diet would help with healing, drink plenty of water & care of wound would all help the healing process. Does appear that the newer ointment is working very well.
Looks lot better then it did. Considering it literally cooked part of her hand. Also said keep the fingers moving as the knuckles were involved.
No wasn't pretty. Two different types of second degree burn.
Dressing & oinment daily with the exception of extra bleeding &/or drainage, then dressing changed more. Elevation helped with the pain. Considering where yours is that may be more difficult.
As she wore a sling for a couple hrs here & there when the hand really hurt/throbbed.
Sounds like you received much better care from the start. Good to hear.
Another thing, with supplies not covered it can tally up. Burn center had left over donated supplies from patients. They did give her some to help out. Perhaps something to keep in mind.
I truly hope this does not hold you up to long. Realizing how important your future is to you.

Lotion with gentle lotion 3x a day for 7 days, then as needed. Use sunscreen when outside and such.
So i avoided narly stuff, but the type of bandage they used was amazing unfortunately its only useful for certain wounds and locations and mine was the prime spot.
