During the swimming, try to just go at your own pace, even if it's just walking back and forth across the pool. I know it feel so good to be in the water, but I have to watch it to, as our instructor is very young and knows nothing about injuries, so she would tear up my shoulder even worse if I let her. I've always been impatient and not too bright when it comes to accepting my limitations. But I am working on it.

that being said, you're probably familiar w prednisone's side effect. to me, the biggest cost is what it does to your bones - i've broken 3 bones over the last 3 years. total bones broken prior to that - 0. were these freak situations? possibly, but i think it's more likely that off-and-on pred use (typically between 5 and 10 mgs) for many years has weakened my bones. i'll do a bone scan sometime within the next year to confirm that, but...use pred judiciously and sparingly it should treat you right.
