Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic, inflammatory, multisystem, autoimmune disorder. I have a hard time managing my spoons as well. It is so frustrating! I feel great one day and try to do all the stuff I used to do and boy, do I pay for it that night and the next day. I think my spoons are little jam spoons for 2-3 days after the MTX and that drives me nuts too! Other days they are normal sized but still limited.
I hope you can have a Merry Christmas dispite it all!~Lori
I've made a commitment this year to not overextended myself even though both of the girls are coming home.
Hubbie helped me clean the house... I have gift certificates and money, I'm planning my meals early, and just going to let everything else fall into place.
I told my mom that I'm planning on napping every afternoon this week bc the pain gets unmanageable in the cold evenings if i don't. I'm trying out a new med now.... and ppl are just going to have to understand. But when i start hurting....it's not fun any more....I've been in a bad flare for more than 2 weeks now... I've learned that if i plan ahead and communicate with ppl around me about my pain level,, it helps a lot.
Take care of yourself and stay well this holiday.
Love the spoon comment - it really is a fitting analogy for us!
then i just have to print out the gift tags and tape them on the presents. that will be nice and relaxing and i'll do it while watching cartoons.
hope everyone else's xmas eve goes smoothly and calmly!
hope you get some help and finish all your chores and relax. feel better.
happy holidays.
I just shared the spoon theory with my family this week. It is spot on with how we feel. Please build some time for rest in your busy schedule. Take care!

we don't have to leave to go to my aunt's house for over 6 hours from now. i have two presents left to wrap and just have to fill the stockings (the ones we have, that is lol). i'm going to take my time cleaning the place and have a nap this afternoon. and i am only 'entertaining' four people and a dog tomorrow morning, so it's not too bad. i think i'll be okay as long as i get a nap in today, and i should have time to squeeze in an hour or so tomorrow at lunchtime.
i'm learning a lot through my first holiday season with RA :/ not all fun lessons.
mama mia.
maybe the enbrel has become an instantaneous miracle drug for you.
i had to take a sick day today from working full hours yesterday then getting food tat o dark night thirty to cook a special meal for the two college kids who are home and thought they would gladly have cooked for me, i wanted to put on a show for them. by midnight i was on a neck brace swallowing muscle relaxant and aleve.
at 2 am i was sitting on the couch staring at my daughter's laptop with her. (i do not own a television and was so sick i needed to stare at something)
at 4 am i was still up with a heating pad. today I can not move. i think i am going to segue to take out for the rest of my life when they come home. working full time first and trying to fa la la la la is bull ****.
the plan is to mend sufficiently to make a unitarian service at 5 pm tonight with them.
