Diet is truly 90% of the cause of my particular RA. By avoiding all my trigger foods and identifying new ones as quickly as they make me flare - I've reaped the reward of controlling my symptoms through primarily diet.
My list of avoid at all costs are now: bananas, real chocolate, chedder cheese (I avoid all hard cheese because the chedder caused so much swelling/joint pain), tomatoes, potatoes, bell peppers
List of things I can only eat once a week (seem to cause cumulative buildup reaction): wheat, ice cream, cream cheese, chickpeas
So this was the first year I didn't gain weight during Xmas. I did eat things I normally don't (Starbucks creations, Reese's cups, etc) but so far only the IBS is acting up - not the longer lasting RA.
Tuesday I go for food allergy tests. I'll tell y'all if the tests are positive for the triggers I've ID'd.

I either do that or have stomach twisting and feel like I'm going to heave every five minutes for a week after taking a single mobic or hydrcodone. The temporary RA relief is not worth the resulting IBS flare :)
Used to swear by Vioxx. (Showing my age there) But that was when I had a stomach of steel :)
Prednisone also is hard on the GI system. Seems all the "good stuff" definitely have their down sides.
There are several new RX drugs for IBS, guess you're probably aware of those. Best wishes.
None of the IBS drugs worked for me. Not even the anti nausea meds. But the paleodiet that put me in a 7 month RA remission - also made the IBS disappear. So both of my conditions are primarily based on food intolerance. I only have problems with either when I develop a new food sensitivity, eat something I know I shouldn't, or take a med that my stomach can't handle.
