Ok had orencia today. Saw rheumy. Went well except I still feel yucky after treatment. But we discussed the synvisk injections for my knees I know some about it but wonder if any of you friends have had this. How bad did it hurt. Did it help. He is going to put it in to my insurance to see bout getting it covered
I have had the Synvisc injections twice and and a similar medication called Euflexxa once. They involve getting one shot a week in your knee for a total of three shots.
My orthopedist said some people choose to get the entire amount in one shot. I am a thin person and certainly couldn't handle three weeks worth of medicine in one visit.
The theory is that, since your knee is out of cartlidge, this shot into your knee will add lubricant, therefore, making it easier to walk.
The first and second rounds of these shots worked great for me. My third round of shots was about 3-4 months ago and I am back to walking with a cane daily.
I guess they quit working as well or my knee has become worse.
As far as the shot itself, personally, I'm needle phobic and I made it through. I think of a Jimmy Buffett song and don't watch the procedure. It is over in seconds.
