Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic, inflammatory, multisystem, autoimmune disorder. It is a disabling and painful condition which can lead to substantial loss of mobility due to pain and joint destruction. Best of Luck!!!!
There are also plastic supports you can get made to fit your hands. I have a hand/ wrist support like this made for me which I wear when situation at point where cant lift or hold things. But this disease comes and goes and can leave it off for long periods of time.
I was also referred to a physio therapist who gave me finger and wrist exercises. I do these fairly regularly (can do in bed) on the bad and the better hand to try to maintain my flexibility as much as possible.
I dont think using splints will cause more damage but dont know point from which you are starting. If fingers are clawed you need help to "unclaw" them as far as possible... I think gentle exercise helps with this disease.
I think the compression helps some too.
