Is it itchy? Any pustules or water filled bumps? Does it spread to your cheeks too or just brows & nose? Basically I don't know for sure & would say ask your Dr. My last Dr said mtx can sometimes cause rashes. I also know a butterfly rash onto cheeks is classic sign of lupus & itchy flaky skin is psoriasis sometimes (red or white w/bumps). But there's also rocasea & eczema which are red rashes & can be on the face. Lupus & psoriasis are AI not sure if rosacea & eczema are or not. My son had eczema asca toddler and Dr said it was a reaction to respiratory issues. It went away never to return. Diaper rash cream and cetaphil worked the best on it. Confused yet?

Have you tried any creams? I was just at wallyworld looking for one for my psoriasis & they have one for just about every rash imaginable.

I have a rash that is now spreading all over me. I do not know what it is, yet. I have pointed it out to five different doctors, four did not know what it is and one dermatologist that said it is caused by the Arava I am taking. I am currently seeking another opinion from another dermatologist, this time to take a biopsy and find out what it is, rather than asking what drugs I am taking, and simply tell me to stop taking a medication without even asking if the rash came about after taking the drug.
I don't know if my rash is RA related or not, but I have read that rashes can be caused by autoimmune diseases. Please keep us (or me) posted on what you find out.

Thanks Emerald and lynne for your replies. My rash is very red, kind of blistery looking & raised, doesn't itch. It is pretty much strictly brows and one side of my nose. My family doc gave me a tube of something to try that helped but didn't get rid of it. Now that I think of it, I take my methotrexate on Friday night and that is when this rash is the worst. My experience with dermatologists is bad and worse. I have NEVER gotten an effective treatment for anything I have ever gone to one for................oh well, probably one more side effect to tolerate!

See if increasing your folic acid helps. I tripled mine to 3mg/day for a couple months and my side effects disappeared. I've stepped down to 2mg and still doing ok. The mouth & nose sores were dreadful.

I always try to relate any new symptom to autoimmune diseases too. Guess that is part of our profile.
Several months ago I had a rash that began on my torso, then wrapped around to my back. It wasn't itching at first but I became concerned when it started to spread and itch. My doc diagnosed it as Pithydriasis. Usually appears in people 10 to 35 years old. (I'm 60). There is no treatment except for meds and topicals to help with itching. Lasted 6 weeks. It never made it to my face.
I got a rash with Arava that was blisters that started on my forearms and began to spread. Discontinued the meds and it went away.

All I know is that my husband gets rashes on his armpits and other places like such and he was told that was related to his RA. Not sure about other places....

I get rashes on the back of my neck and around hairline off n on. Dermatologist said it was a remicade reaction. I sincerely doubt it? I've been in it for over 3 yrs n just started rashes the last 6 months or so.

Roni, my rashes and other side effects from what the Dr said was a side effect to mtx started after being on the meds for over 3yrs. The Dr said it can happen because your body finally "found" the drug after all that time and decided to react to it. When I posted my question on this board, because I was skeptical too, several people started getting side effects after yrs on the same med. So I guess it can happen.

Since I posted my response, I've gotten 2 nose ulcers. Maybe I jinxed myself saying they went away never to return. I'll go back to 3 folic acid tonight & see if that helps.

This disease is so strange sometimes. As soon as you think you've got it figured out it changes up to remind you that you really don't.

Emerald, I too now have a nose ulcer to go along with the rash! I am also going to up the folic acid. I feel sure this is a MTX side effect. Thanks again to all for the replies.

I have a rash that begin after a bad yeast infection that began after a 10 day dose of an antibiotic. The rash is on my arms, the back of my neck and beneath my breasts. I did have a nose sore prior to all this - in fact that is when the antibiotics were prescribed. I am so miserable.
Does anyone out there know what it might be and what I can do.
