When I was first diagnosed I took Plaquenil, Methotrexate, Folic Acid and prednisone. Within a few weeks my arms looked like I had been severely beaten. They were black and blue, like the blood vessels were enlarged. It was bizarre. It was worse when I was in the sun, so I had to avoid sunshine for many months, even after I stopped the Plaquenil.

I thought it might be sun poisoning, but my rheumy said I had an adverse event to the Plaquenil. It was not painful but it looked awful.

I do take mtx; this just looks like I have "bad blood in my veil s": my daughter's description! I looks crappy enough to feel as though I should wear long sleeves but its 110 here. Maybe I should email my rheumy. Thanks Trish

I was speaking with a new Rheumy about two weeks ago and, during his physical examination, he noticed that I had purple mottling on my hands, fingers, and feet.

He said there is evidence that this is linked to autoimmune diseases. I haven't had time to research it but I thought you would find his comments interesting.
