I have Crocs that are good. Not much support, but are very comfortable, and cheap.

I was first put on Humira, then Enbrel, Cimzia, Orencia, Actemra and now Rituxan. Humira worked great on my feet, but other areas were not improving, and getting worse. My first infusion for Rituxan was about a month ago, and I think it is working the best so far. I hope so, because it seems that I am running out of options.

I was on Humira. It worked great to relieve inflammation in my hands and feet but I felt so sick ALL the time that I changed to Orencia. On Humira I felt like I constantly had the flu. All I wanted to do was sleep.

Orencia didnt help much so now I started Actemra infusions, and I am liking it so far.

New Balance style 928 do wonders for me. Only carried at "true shoe stores", not department stores. Same shoe stores have better quality shoe inserts than the typical Dr. Scholl inserts. I have not tried those yet, I have felt so much relief over the summer with the better shoe, but I have recently started to think I might be getting closer to needing to try those too. I bought a pair of SAS Freestyle with the NB 928 and wear those with dress pants. They are comfortable and light as a feather, but for the long haul, the NB 928 definitely offers more support and relief from pain. Both are recommended for diabetes and arthritis. I would think both would work as uniform shoes. The majority of my damage is in the fore foot and toes. Life is better since shoe shopping.

I am sorry to hear you are not doing so well on Humira. Hope you can fine that right med combo for you soon. Please let me know what you doctor suggests for you... because I might be right behind you.... I thought Humira was going to be a good drug for me but now I am thinking not.... Those on Humira that have been sick from it.... when did you get sick? was it the day of the shot or a few days or so after taking it? it seems that I might be getting sick from Humira about one week after the shot and staying sick for a week... then when it is time to take the shot again... I am fine for a while then I get so sick about one week later again....I have been having shortness of breath so wondering if that might be from the humira but I would think it would start as soon as I take the shot of humira...but maybe not???? I am tired of being sick... I am so sick of RA but do we need to be sick due to the meds too?

Hi carrottop. Thanks for your input. I seem to get an upper respiratory tract infection from these meds. First methotrexate now humira. For me I think the humira was working because since I have not taken it for nearly 3 weeks the pain is worse then when I was taking the injection. I had a little shortness of breath but think it was due to the upper respiratory infection. I noticed after taking the injection like for two days I would have a pounding heart. Never was nauseated or anything like that but more upper respiratory tract infection. I had horrible sores in my nose that got worse the longer I took humira. So now back to square one. Gind another medication I am sure and another prior auth. I dee my rheumy the end of the month. I so want to keep on the humira cuz it was working for the most part and I wonder if I go on another med will I have the same issue with infections. Grrrrr that is so frustrating. I wish u luck.

Thank you gracesimply. 2leftfeet cant wear crocs and for me I just cant bring myself to wear them. Yes I will need to find something that works. My other shoes were working but wondering if I am getting hammer toes. Any solutions for that?. Good luck to us all!!!!

I'm afraid to see my rheumy on Monday. I am getting another upper respiratory infection-3rd one this year. I have never been on anything other than mtx, so I don't know what to expect, I'm going to have blood work done Fri cause I know my inflammation levels are going to be up again. Crap, I just am growing weary of going between getting sick or hurting!!! On the shoe question fitflops are what the podiatrist recommended; I got some that loo like moccasins I wear around the house, and they do seem to help. Good luck on your quest. Trish

i was on humira, second for a year. it was number two in tthe biologic hit parade. sinus infections were a constant with this med, for me

and yeah my rheumatologist says stop the biologic for almost every infection I have if the infections is significant and especially if I am on an antibiotic. i. I call up the office. as I recall, that was about the time I became wedded to flonase.

your docor will either try another anti tnf or she will jump to orencia i would guess. i tried both enbrel and humira before a change.

feet: i had orthotics (after the podiatrist injected cortisone) made for my shoes but I have to admit there were many many days when I had no shoes on under the desk which is a no go for you as a nurse i agree with the whole flip flop thing feeling good even though they can't be worn at work. we have so many nurses on here I hope they chime in with their favorite shoe method to try and appease the RA gods

I was given Humira after having a deathly side effect from Methotrexate. The Humira did great for me after about a month then after about 6 weeks, I began vomiting everything, even water for 3 to 4 days after taking the injection. Enbrel was next but after second injection I felt suicidal so was changed to another medication that I can't remember the name of but it caused liver enzymes to go too high. Next was Actamra but it isn't helping much at all. I told dr that I would rather go back on Humira and be sick for a few days than the other meds that haven't been giving me any relief. The short time I was on Humira I was able to graduate to a walker from wheelchair and even occasionally just a cane. Now that my Medicare has started I will have to go into office for infusions of yet another medication. I know all meds work differently for different people. I just wish they could figure out something for all of us to get relief for a better quality of life that doesn't have such horrible side effects. I pray for you all.

Racerunner: This is my first post. I was looking for info on Humira as my RA doc has prescribed it but I haven't started taking it yet. Wanted to see what other people were saying about it. And I just wanted to say you have my empathy on the inability to wear "real shoes". I have been breaking the dress code here at work for 6 months, as all I can wear are my croc flip-flops and a pair of Clark's sandals. I now have a hammer toe in addition to the R.A. pain. My RA is concentrated in the ball of my feet and has taken a while to be diagnosed. It's doing better after a few weeks of prednisone and sulfazine, but has plateaued, thus the Humira. My life has changed so much with this R.A. -- I had no idea what I was in for. People look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them it feels like I am "walking with rocks inside the ball of my foot". I will keep an eye on you, as who knows if I will tolerate Humira and may have to try something else as well. All the best to you.

I started on Humira now Enbrel 2x's a week along with 4. Methotrexate. I see a new rheumy in December and I'm hoping there is a better solution down the pike! I'm on my feet ALL day! I wear Danskos. They are not my favorite looking shoe, but they have come out with some cuter styles since the clogs. I also have a pair of Frey boots that are wonderful. I bought a pair of magnetic inserts that I put in all my shoes. I have spent a fair amt.of money on shoes, but for me its totally worth it. Good luck and I hope we all have some pain relief!

Thanks for all your input. That is awesome. Great people here!! To askme56 the humira worked pretty good for me despite the sinus infection. I am hoping I will still continue on it versus trying another one and going through another prior auth. My RA in my feet so far r my ankles and toes
My last 3 toes on each foot feel like they may actually break off while walking. They hurt badley on the underside by the knuckle and where they connect to my feet. Cant hardly touch those toes some days. I hope u give humira a chance if that is what u decide. I was willing to try anything to get the pain to ease up. Thanks for the suggestions on the shoes everyone. They weren't so bad when I was taking humira. But I need to find something where I dont walk with a limp trying to protect my toes. there are some antibiotics that you can take long term (some are even prescribed for RA). What about taking a daily antibiotic to prevent infection?

. I have been on Humira for about 3 years and am starting to notice how I feel after injection. Take about 5 meds for RA and now beginning to lose ground. Humira is the only biologic I have been on so it's hard for me to judge. I too, don't feel so swift the next couple days after injection. It' getting harder to keep all the balls juggling in the air.
