Hi! I am shutting down my account. I accepted a friend and my computer was hacked. I appreciate everyones support and encouragement. I had to pay a lot of money to get my computer up and running and can't take any more chances accepting friends I don't know. Be blessed!

If your computer is hacked while using any social media, or gamilng, or finacial, it is important to let the support people know about it. Who it was, and what happened. Sometimes they can help. They need to know so they can correct the problem that let the hackers through. No site will be immune to hackers, but by letting the operators know, they can make it a lot harder

That sucks! Tell us who the friend is, if it's on this site, we need to know for our own safety. I had no idea by adding friends, they could hack you. =(
I thought hacking was done by anyone, friend or not?

So sad :( I received a friend request yesterday pretty much begging me to email her. I didn't I had a strange feeling. She doesn't belong to any groups and has no friends. I guess they can hack u by your email. So sad. Its a great support group!

Sadly, it is best to be cautious everywhere online. Do not give anyone your information....and if they press you to do it quickly, be even more wary. If someone is bothering you, report them to support.

I suppose Lifeis2short won't receive this message, and I am sorry to lose her insights.
I received several shady requests for friending, including a few that asked to communicate directly through a personal email and not through the site. I did not respond to them.

That's exactly what happened to me jane! I didn't respond. What the heck are they trying to do? This person joined the day she begged me to email her via her personal email address.

You may already be gone but if not farewell and good luck. Had no idea this could happen and tend to accept people who friend request if I have noticed there activity on here. But not the occasional one or two out of the blue who dont even seem to have RA. Cant understand how they can get into your account via DS. It all seems so private - unless you gave them your personal email.

I am really careful about who I accept a friend request from.
It may hurt people's feelings, but my privacy and safety are very important and I have been burned in the past.

hi, you can't get hacked via DS system.

If you accept a file over meebo that is possible, but that's not DS. If you enter into e-mail correspondence outside of DS you can be hacked, if you give out your private details to someone again you can be hacked, but you cannot be hacked if you are using DS, ie the boards, hugs and PMs.

I went ahead and deleted all my friends. I did not even think about some sabotaging my computer on this board.

But you have been such a cheerful support to so many people on this board. Will you not just stay and contribute and just not accept friends.

We need you and I feel like you need us too.

I just had an oddball one in my email from Daily Strength, supposedly a "hug" from someone (but nothing shows up in the hugbook). This individual was asking for my personal email address, looking for a "friend and partner." NOT a name I've seen post on this board or another one I used to occasionally post on.
