Crocs are comftorble and so are some flip flops called Yellow box. They have the best most comftorble coushiony soles, and they are stylish too! If your town has botiques you can generally find them in one or two of them. A few phone calls around town and someone can tell you where to find them. If not they do have a website, but I think you have to buy them localy.
I LOVE my yellowbox Sandals. Most comfy ever, and they last last last.
Worth every dime, I promise!!!!

Oh and one more thing. Bring several differant pair so that you can change them. Bring one of those shoulder bags instead of a handbag and use it for your shoe change outs and sunscreen and meds. Make someone else carry the souvineers and anything else :D

One of the things I did while on vacation at the recommendation of my doctor was to up my prednisone to 10mg daily. Also you may want have your break through pain medication with you, for those times when it gets impossible to endure.

You may want to get started on a tan in a tanning booth (I hate them), so you dont have to worry so much about burning too. You may want to go with the tradition of Mexico while you are there, dont miss the mid-day siesta! Again, I wish you a wonderful trip!

Jane, First off congrats on your daughter's wedding! This has been a question and thread that comes up from time t time. I learned a long time ago that CHEAP shoes no longer work for my pathetic RA riddled feet. Personally I love mephistoes,but they are mega expensive. They were a recommendation to me from my rhuemie when I couldn't walk. The mephisto sandals got me through a week of disney world and you know what walking that entails.

A bit cheaper and shoes that I have a lot of are Merrels. I like them because they have clogs in all colors in mesh. They also make comfortable sandals in leather and suede.

Other shoes to consider are birkenstocks, clarks and born. For my feet mephistoes and merrells are my first choice.

I did 5 weeks last year in the States. Miles of walking each day and my crocs were a godsend. They come in really nice looking sandals and pretty colours. I live in them. Have a great time in Mexico.

As Daisy suggested may want to ask your rhuemie for a 7 day medrol dose pack. I take one whenever I travel because the pressure in the air plane is brutal to my feet. The nice thing about the dose pack is that it is a small limited amount of prednisone that should help you get through your trip. Not sure if you have flown since being diagnosed with RA, but the pressurized cabin can be brutal to your joints. I also have been advised to wear surgical stockings on the plane ride as that is suppose to help with inflammation.

Definitely get the Medrol pack. And for the feet I recommend Teva sandals. I love them in warm weather!

Jane - congratulations and I hope your trip is wonderful. Please remember your drugs, but if you run short, Cancun is not the end of the world.

They have some good pharmacies (they cater to tourists) and have English-speaking staff. I did get some of my meds in Mexico when I had a flare-up - it was simple. I've been there many times and I think you will love the area as well as the wonderful people you will meet.

I go nowhere without my Birkenstock. They are great for long walks. Your Foot gets molded into them as you wear them and no one else can wear them but you. They also give you great support.

I don't have any recommendations for shoes but congratulations on your daughter's marriage. Ours is getting married April the 9th. Back to shoes, my feet are so weird that I never know what to wear from one day to the next. I can wear a slip on most of the time but there are times when they kill me. One thing I have learned and been told by a doctor is don't wear house shoes in the house too much. You need to get your feet into something, tennis shoe or something with a little support for most of the day. I generally wear a pair of Skeechers around the house then slip into my favorite house shoes just before bed. Just a little trivia. Take care on the trip and don't forget to take your time and rest when needed. Enjoy, Hugs, Charlie

First recommendation, what ever you buy, make sure to break them in before your trip. Second recommendation, skip the sandals and spend more time bare foot in the sand. Lastly, if you choose to buy sandals, a few brands have worked great for me: Reef flip flops, Earth sandals (these are the best!), and either tevas or chacos. I have also had good luck with Birkenstocks too.

Best advice though is to make sure you break in what ever pair you buy first.

Crocs rock! They are great because you can wear them in the sand, get them wet, and they just rinse off and they are have a roomy footbed and they do not squeeze your toes. I'm a nurse and when I can't get my tennis shoes on, I go back to my Crocs. Lots of nurses wear them b/c they are like wearing your house shoes to work. I do recommend the Crocs brand, not a knockoff ... there is a big difference. Try crocs.com or zappos.com.

I wear the SAS brand walking shoes. Sandals I can't wear, hurts my feet. Congrats, enjoy, and good luck....!

Thanks for all of your suggestions and advice! We're very excited about the trip, and I want to enjoy the vacation with my husband, 10 yr old son, daughter and new son-in-law, and all of the other members of our wedding party. It will be good to be out in the sun and warm weather for a while. I'm pretty tired of the sub-zero weather we have been having lately.
