I took a high dose like that when my Scleritis was at the point of destroying my eye. Actually I was on 60 for months...yeah...pretty bad stuff. Depends on what's going on with you but for now he's probably just trying to get that under control and will follow up with a diagnosis.

In my case the oral dose, even at such a high amount, didn't take care of the Scleritis until I found a doctor that knew what was going on and he gave me a shot of it in the eye. Sounds horrible, but I got my life back.

It's a high dose, not abnormal, but definitely high. You have the right of course to ask for a lower dose. Afterall, it's good to find out how you react first before taking such a high dose. Just my two cents.

he also could be doing for you what mine did for me. When I was first having symptoms of Chronic Fatigue syndrom, my Rheumy prescribed a dose of steroids almost identical to the one you just described. His reasoning behind it was diagnostic. If I saw improvement with the steroids then it probably was something autoimmune.

I didn't see results at that time, so it was the CFS dx. Which I believe was correct.

I agree that it is a high dose but not abnormal. Sounds like your dooc wants to aggressively knock out your inflammation. Prednisone is a great drug to do that.

I warn you though that that high of a dose may have you bouncing off walls. I have referred to myself as the energizer bunny on crack when I have needed to use it.

Remember this is your body. May I sugfgest asking your doctor his mode of thinking regarding the dosage. This may make things a lot clearer for you.

I agree with the others. My doctor put me on a month course of Prednisone. I was on 20mg reduce by 5mg a week. My doctor said if it helps then it's autoimmune.

You're on a short course but quite high. I'd do what the doctor said or ask for another opinion.

Be warned, you'll have a lot more energy and get really hungry lol. I found if I take it during the day I have more energy, but if I take it at night then I sleep through all the hungryness lol.

I had an asthma attack last July and they gave me the exact same dose your doc gave you. It was a wonderful few days. No pain.

It's a oack they give you, I forget the name of it. This is normal, trust me you will feel better and have energy.

THanks all--I called the doc. He said, "oh, I was using a different manufacturer. Sure, take 30 instead, then go down to 20, then 10. Hmmm....I think I need another doctor. Glad I called.

I refuse it. I am sicker on all inflammation counts the second I wean to zero prednisone after experiencing the temporary cure unless it is my lungs (which it is a a lot) they note my record, no. i wish it worked as it seems to do for so many of you as some kind of "kicker" to reduce and maintain, but I reduce and expand when it's stopped.

My rheumie wanted me to take 60mg and it put me through the roof, so we started with 40mg then weaned down and that was more bearable

wanted to add. That the high dose put me in sever pain, I was crying and my low back was killing me. that's when I called the doc and told her, and thats when she lowered it

this sounds like a medrol dose pack to me - incrementally lower doses of steroid each day until the last day of the pack about 5 - 7 days later. this is actually an excellent, short-term solution to a flare - i've used this type of dosing for major flares with virtually complete relief (i've had dx'ed RA for over 10 years). your dr may want to see whether you're experiencing a temporary condition that can be brought under control w a short burst of steroids.

seems like a reasonable treatment plan to me, assuming that either 1. your inflammation doesn't return, or 2. if it does, another med designed for long-term use is brought on board.

I've just had 3 days on 50 now 3 on 40 30 20 and back to 10. Normally I take 10mg but due to having pneumonia they are giving me massive doses. The good thing is I don't have any lines on my face it's all fill in with prednisone moonface.
