Do any if you struggle keeping your pitasium levels up. Mine is dropping all the time even with use of klor con supplement. I'm supposed to have surgery tomorow I hope they will so it they won't if potasium is too low.

Make sure they check your levels prior to the surgery-I had to push a hospital to check blood sugars a relative of mine prior to a surgery.

What caused low potassium problems with another relative of mine was another meds he was taking-the other meds dosage had to be lowered and that brought the potassium level up to an ok level

I'm having a similar problem, but it's because I sweat, usually heavily, 24/7. It effects all of my electrolytes. I have to take the highest dose of otc potassium twice a day and eat plenty of potassium rich foods. Even then, it stays just a little below the normal line. I also take a thiazide med known to cause issues too that we may have to switch up to keep me at the normal level at least. I have to stay on something like that to prevent severe swelling in calves and ankles though. It always seems to be a catch 22 with ra.

I'm taking 4 prescription potassium pills a day, and my level is still barely normal.
