i have a rheumatoid buddy who had this happen with remicaide - or her rheumatologist called it remicaide induced lupus. she has had no lupus symptoms other than the positive blood test and it ramped toward (but not quite ) normal when she came off the remicaide. she is on another biologic called simponi now and doing great.

I know you are reaching out for support. we support you but get on your rheumie service and see if at least you can use the patient portal for your rheumie or get one of the nursing assistants to run interference between your lab results and the doc. not my cup of tea the other option: doctor google. i think we cause more rumination and angst using it than we do talking to the person with the diploma. this group can have didactic answering folks also that lecture and medically pontificate. If you are worried enough to be concerned then I am worried for you (You have had a rough haul lately) so call up the office and then post back so I will not worry anymore than I have to....smile.

Thanks Depot. I do like my rheumy but he's a one person show. There are no nurses and we communicate by text. I did text him yesterday about a refill and asked about the blood work. He never addressed that part of my text. I see him next week. I'm sure I can wait until then. Thanks for the hugs!

I guess I am one of those didactic types.

ANA is reported as a "titer". Low titers are in the range of 1:40 to 1:60. A positive ANA test is much more significant if you also have antibodies against the double-stranded form of DNA. The presence of ANA does not confirm a diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosis (SLE).

And it's true, some drugs and OTC stuff can cause a positive result.

I thought 1:40 was considered negative.

When I first started having new symptoms of autoimmune issues my pcp ran ana and some other lupus work up. The office referred me to a Rheumy because they said they were concerned it was Lupus, and I spent a few weeks worried about it. Tests were rerun and it came back normal. I don't have much to add, on board with Depotblue, except I know the worry. I had just recovered from major back surgery & was beside myself thinking that was next. Truthfully I was furious & lost my temper with a gas station clerk & had to apologize. He was a jerk but I don't handle things that poorly. Try not to " borrow trouble" worrying and wait until your doc can explain it fully at your visit.

Thanks for everyone's help. I went to my rheumy 2. days ago and he said it was negative. I pointed out how the report said positive but from his perspective 140 is negative. He will test again in the future.

Glad to hear your rheumatologist confirmed what I was going to say. My doctor would say those numbers are "not significant!" I had some blood tests come back one or two above the high, and he just laughed when I was worried about it. Some of this is definitely med induced. Lupus in particular is well known for being drug induced, so he might have been testing to see how much the drug was affecting you in that way, and found nothing.

And all that googling gone to waste! LOL

(PS not laughing at you, but the hours I spent checking out each blood test that was either high or low on my blood tests and only to find out the numbers were "not significant" and in fact, sometimes to be expected when you are playing around with the autoimmune system with drugs that suppress one thing or another.)

LOL Who among us hasn't spent a lot of time googling, only to find out we didn't need to after all. I think I'm the queen of doing that. :-)
