I am 18yrs old and have been taking medicine for my rheumatoid arthritis and lupus for a few months now but it seems like the more i continue to use the medicine the more pain i am in. For the past 2 weeks i have been getting flare up after flare up. I have no idea what i can possibly do to help prevent them or make them at least decrease . I am beyond lost on what to do .

Don't give up! I thought nothing was working at first, then my rheumy explained that mtx took up to 5 months to really kick in. You might ask your doc for a quick run of steroids to get you thru. So very sorry for your pain right now and the flare ups are crappy, sorry. Glad you are here, we will help as best we can. Trish

Hi ckayla, so sorry you have been saddled with this heavy duty of a diagnosis of RA at such a young age. This is why
i am awake now, I am in pain and cannot shake it at the moment. this is in spite of long acting and short acting pain meds around the clock.ideally you should be on RA meds. Do you have a Rheumatologist? With this awful disease, you will have good and dad days with or without pain medicine and or RA meds. I try to not let things upset me because that can throw anybody into a flare. If I do feel myself going into a flare, I stop everything, take pain medication and rest. That helps tremendously and it decreases the length of time of the flare considerably. Hope you are feeling better real soon. Please keep us posted in your progress.
