one swollen, sore finger

Hey folks... a question please. For the most part I can live with my achey hands, but lately my ring finger of right hand (I'm right handed of course) is SO sore... it is hard to not use it when doing anything. this morning I was making chicken salad and the stirring motion just about sent me over the moon! It is now swollen some... rest of the fingers are ok. Should I split this thing to give it a much needed rest? I iced it for a bit and seems to help, but it is hard to not continuly move it when doing anything. I think that I might be forced to eat a popsicle to get the stick!

Have you tried some heat, like a heating pad for the finger ? Of course the popsicle is a good idea as well - get two while you're there.

Try taping it to the finger next to it. It will be less mobile than nothing but still let you move a bit. I tape my ring finger to my middle finger every night before bed. It's a bit still in the am, but it works great - no trigger finger, far less pain.
The only noticeable RA I have are two fingers. Crazy!

Yes I usually have to splint mine when they get that way a lot if times its my pinky or middle finger

Thanks! I'm splinted now! I cut two cheap emery boards and used 2 bandaids to tape around it. This is the finger that bothers me more than any of the others... annoying! I wear compression gloves to bed at night but they don't keep me from moving fingers.

I've found that isolated massage and taping the affected finger to the one next to it help. Hope you feel better soon!

I have a massage on Tuesday, so will ask her to work on hands a lot this time. Started off the day OK... I did tape 2 fingers together overnight. But, after about 2 hours of running around, fitness center and store, it started to swell up a bit again, so taped up with the emery board again. I did order some finger splints from drugstore.com (my fav. store online), they should look better than my attempt!

For those of you having this issue, are you on biologics and still having problems? I'm not on them 'yet' as have been doing well with the celebrex/plaquenil mix.. but we shall see... thanks much!
