This sounds like what I had. Pain was horrific, could not touch it at all. Went to orthopedic doc. and he said I had a crack in my ankle.. Put a boot on it and the pain was so bad from the boot touching it I took it off once I got home. I ended up in a wheel chair as I could not put weight on it. After 4 weeks of trying the boot I finally could use it. One day I got up and took a couple of steps and there was this loud crack, pain was just about gone. took 2 more steps, another crack and pain was gone for good. I swear it was a nerve caught somehow in the ankle and finally popped out.. ankle was sore for a while but no actual pain. never happened again. But I know that pain. I was ready to call 911 it was so bad.

did I remember correctly - you are working full time as a nurse racerunner? how's that going with the ankle?

From what I have read over the years on nerves that are pinched is that no matter what you do you can never get back to the original healthy normal. I have a herniated disk in my neck, I have avoided surgery, but I did find exercises and stretches that helped with the pain, numbness and loss of function. Be vigilant and keep researching things to try. That is the only thing I have been able to do to date keep all the symptoms semi reasonable. Good Luck

I turned mt ankle playing basketball years ago, and tore all kinds of stuff. I still get sudden, out-of-the blue pain, that can last an hour or weeks. Doctors have said nerves are impinged, but it's so random, I'm scared to do anything surgically. Best wishes.

Yes joline I am hesitant to do any surgery on my foot. My podiatrist said there is a 20% chance that I will have the same issue again with the foot because of the RA

when you struggle at work - are you at a desk or on the nursing floors? do the nsaids work at all?

I know racerunner - I miss it also, a lot.

Hi depot. When I am at work I am on my feet more than a desk. Yes I do advil, tried gabapentin to sedated on that for my job. Not much helps with the pain. Sucks for sure.

Get a second opinion. Try to find an orthopedist who specializes in CUTOM ORTHOTICS.

Not nerve issue, but I avoided ankle fusion surgery by having an AFO leg brace made for me by an orthopedist at a major hospital. He makes artificial limbs and all kinds of devices. I wore every day for TEN YEARS and the side-to-side ankle joins fused itself and I have full movement otherwise. It was WELL worth it!! Ankle fusion surgery would have meant no weight-bearing for months and then a permanent limp.

Thanks warrior. I really don't want the surgery route either. The walking boot helps some but I can't live in that, and when I wear it other parts hurt then like hip joints. Ughh
