Nano particles! Yikes

Researchers at the University of Calgary, in Alberta, Canada have discovered some kind of nanoparticles which stops the body from attacking itself. Not sure if it is a cure, or if it has to be repeated. It also applies to diabetes and MS, but RA was not specifically mentioned, just autoimmune diseases.

They haven't even started pre-clinical trials, but I am going to look into it. I have children I live with in Calgary and I could easily stay there.


Hmm! I wonder what the side effects are? Mostly, I'm looking for a back up plan if Orencia fails, because there are no biologics left for me!

Yes, my hope is my children won't have to! I got RA at 44, one is 2 years away, the rest younger. So they better figure this whole nano nano thing out quickly!

Just read it and it's very exciting news...but, they have not yet done PRE-clinical trials.

Thank you so much for sharing this, Marlene! How long are you on Orencia? I had an infusion today.

I've been on it 2 years, and it works ok with mthx and Arava. It is supposed to have a longer life span than a lot of biologics. But it would be nice to go for the "cure" (if there is such a thing!) instead of just treatment. My DIL and SIL both did their residency in Calgary, well, my SIL is in 5th year. My DIL was very disinterested in the topic, maybe my SIL will be more interested in digging into this?

Or maybe there are just too many years left to get this to clincial trials for me? Maybe the next gen?

That is an amazing article. Even if it works without modification, it will take 10 years before it could go on the market. But this is great news.
