Race runner, that is a painful condition. That's how I started on the RA diagnosis. My Podiatrist put me in a walking boot and crutches, and PT in a warm therapy pool. It did help, but it took months (remember that's just me). It still flares. Also, I used Epsom Salts and that helped, along with elevating my leg.

I hope this gets resolved quickly.

I had tendonitis in the foot some years back. My orthopedic surgeon put me in a walking boot for 2-3 months. It wasn't quite normal once I came out of it, so I went back into it. In all.....9 months. But it did the trick. And I've never had a problem since.

My case was a little more stubborn than most, plus I put off a doctor visit, which no doubt exacerbated the situation.

Thank you journey and California. I don't understand why a walking boot wasn't suggested. It is so painful and i have been dealing with it for months and i would like it taken care of before severe damage is done. He did mention orthodics but then said that wouldn't help. Thanks for your input i sure appreciate it. I am just frustrated

So skip the podiatrist and go see an orthopedic surgeon who deals with feet. They will understand the Ra connection much better than a podiatrist(sorry...but I've met a few bad ones) and probably put you in a boot. I've had so many problems with my feet that I have a boot that goes up to just under my knee and can be right or left foot and has all sorts of inserts to support different areas and keep the bad area still.

Like it or not, tendinitis is a reality for those with Ra. Tendons are covered with synovial tissue just like the membranes inside our joints that swell and make the joint fluid that eats at our bones. Once it hits, it never really goes away...just waxes ans wanes.

My worst deformtiies are my right foot. It got to the point where I could not walk, and had to use a wheel chair.

If you do not have deformities be careful about going to an orthopedic surgeon. I went to several and they were very eager to do surgery. So I had it done and the pain is much, much worse. Nerves were cut, toes could not be put back in the right place because the bone was too rotten, and although the foot looks a bit better, if I had a do-over I would pass on it.

No one suggested a boot to me. Glad to hear that it worked for some. Same with my worsening left foot. Not getting surgery on it. And no boot has been suggested!!

As for tendonitis, I never had it until recently. It is bad in my hands, especially. And the meds don't seem to stop it.
