First I have a tendency to sweat more than the average person so that may play a part in this strange thing I have been experienceing,

My rheumy put me back on MTX last week because all other meds seem to be ineffective. We stopped MTX a few years ago because I was not enjoying the various side effects. One of those odd effects has returned. When I sweat it has a yellow hue, the same yellow tint as MTX. I changed the sheets on our bed this am and found the mattress pad has a almost perfect yellow section in the shape of my body.

Also my hair seems to feel like there is gel in it since I started back on MTX. Being in Florida, the trip to check the mail will cause me to sweat. The sweat gets in my hair, once it dries, my hair is kinda crunchy...

Anyone have any similar experiences with MTX?

Barry, hi,

I'm sorry you're feeling so rotten -- side effects are no fun. I'm not on MTX (yet), so am not really familiar with them. I did search MTX and side effects and found there were a lot of entries, so you might try that, to see if someone's already posted about it.

I hope you find some good suggestions,

I don't have yellow sweat, but I do have the same hair issues. When I am on the mtx it feels like I have candle wax in my hair-even if I have just washed it. I switched to a clarifying shampoo from the salon and don't use much conditioner anymore and that has helped a bit.

Omigosh, yellow sweat....are you on injectable or oral MTX? Not sure if it would make a difference or not. I haven't been on MTX during sweaty season, which has already started NOW in Kansas (we're in the upper 90s today and muggy) but I'll be sure to watch out for this one!

I was just thinking: Could it be a guy thing? Not that women don't sweat, cause we certainly do! : ) But I just wonder if there's something about your body chemistry that would cause that problem more so than with women? Just a thought . . .

I sweat constantly, esp. when I was going through menopause. I was on mthx for 10 years and never had yellow sweat. The thought intrigues me. I wonder if you are not metabolizing the drug properly? I would talk to my rheumy about it, if you are worried.

Mthx did not affect my hair either, but prednisone caused me to lose about 1/3 of my hair permanently. Mthx did affect my liver. A nice drug,with some weird side effects, no doubt.

thank you all for your replies. I agree it could be a guy thing. I know I am in the minority population being a guy with RA. But guy or gal, being part of this special club (meaning RA) SUCKS! ;)
