I found out today that my employers health insurance will end the day I leave (not at the end of the month as with previous employers).
I am moving 2 weeks after I leave work and COBRA is not an option, too expensive.
Can anyone help me figure out where I go to find insurance during the gap between moving from Wisconsin to Texas?
I am pretty nervous about this right now.

Have you tried healthcare.gov ? I think, since your circumstances are changing, you can sign up even though it's not the open enrollment period. I LOVE the coverage I got through the Affordable Care Act. Could you get a Texas policy, and pray nothing happens until you're there? A texas policy should cover a Wisconsin emergency in any case.

that's what my concerns/questions are attocief.
I don't know if a Texas policy would cover me in transition.
I can use my bf's sister's address as residence til we get there if I have to but I want to see what all my options are.

I had a situation kind of like this with an out-of-state college kid. From what I could tell, they won't want to cover anything routine, but if you break a leg or need your appendix out (God forbid!), you're covered. That's probably all you need for the two weeks anyway.

Good luck. I think Texas is one of those states that won't participate in the Affordable Care Act. I truly wish you well, the thought of being uninsured totally freaks me out. Trish

thanks everyone. Apparently I have 2 months to decide if I want COBRA. If anything happens while I'm still in WI I can elect COBRA and cancel after a month. It will be retroactive to the date I quit even if I don't elect it til later. That will at least help while I move. Then I will immediately need to elect for new insurance through the exchange. Yes Texas does participate in the ACA.
