Good morning,
I had an MRI done of my back, and it mentions i have modic type 2 bone marrow ischemia and sclerotic lesions. Well, I am ready for the next chapter, now besides the other RA symptoms, this comes up in the MRI. Is this related t RA and I really don't understand what this means? Seeing Rheumatologist in a few days to discuss it.

Modic types refer to vertebral endplate changes,
Type 1 consists of fibro vascular tissue,
type 2 is yellow fat, and
type 3 is sclerotic bone.
In Modic type 1 there is vascular development in the vertebral body, with findings of inflammation and edema, but no trabecular damage or marrow changes.
In Modic type 2 there are changes in bone marrow, with fatty replacement of formerly red, cellular marrow normally seen there.
Sounds to me like what it's saying is that your vascular tissue in a certain area has been replaced with fatty tissue?????? Again, I am not an expert.
Doesn't sound to me like this is at all related to RA, but is likely NOT autoimmune and probably classified in the degenerative skeletal conditions.

I have a number of autoimmune and non-autoimmune conditions related to the back. One that is very troublesome is AS [ankylosing spondylitis] which is suspected when people test positive for HLA-B27 [80% of all AS patients test positive to this haplotype]..
Back issues are the worst!
