It's the time of year when we like to take stock of our lives, what we are happy with, what we would like to change.
In that spirit, I have come to the conclusion that I would like to resign from the Autoimmune Disease Club. To be clear, I don't remember actually ever deciding to join. The membership kit just arrived on my doorstep.
The thing is, I just don't have time for this. There are many things I would like to be doing, and I need good health and a well-functioning body to do them. Going to doctors' appointments, physical therapy, the lab, and the pharmacy take time, patience, and money I no longer feel I can dedicate to this enterprise.
The dues have become too high. I'm tired of daily pills and weekly injections. A full night's sleep, on a regular basis, would be nice. Trying to open a jar without cursing like a sailor would be good. Having a conversation with my orthopedic surgeon at Trader Joe's instead of in his office would be a nice change. He's a lovely man, but I'd like to change the topics of conversation. Same with my rheumatologist and endocrinologist. I'm finding the fatigue part of the dues package to be burdensome as well.
I'm sure you can all see why I no longer want to retain my membership in the Autoimmune Disease Club. Some of you may even want to join me in resigning.
There's just one problem: I can't find my enrollment package. Does someone have the forms to fill out to get out of this? The phone number to call, the address to send correspondence to? Any help would be appreciated.

what about all this accumulated experience?
what would I do with my gargantuan collection of icing, heating pads, wraps, splints, joint braces in various colors, sizes and shapes, FLEA MARKET ANYONE?
how could my life maintain any real meaning if I did not have to stay "on the line" with health insurance, hospital billing departments, medical office secretaries, thanking, cajoling, following up, beseeching? I would rather say call the IRS than another doctor's office hospital or billing department so maybe you have a point about this revocation....
Of course I will sorely miss the incoming phone ringing morning, noon, and night with automated appointment reminders. I feel so well loved from these computer generated voices reminding, reminding, reminding....who needs a love life when the the auto medical calls come in daily?
so do people that rescind their membership stay up past o dark thirty? I say this because last night the clock said 7:00 PM when I fell asleep....for the entire night.
maybe you should just bring the van around and this can be decided en masse.

Whatcha gonna do with all the spare time and money - I know what I would do if I could resign -
I would take the wagon to Hickville and 'cruise the Dairy Queen' - WALK down to the Brazos and just chunk rocks for a while - walk from one corner of Wal-Mart to the opposite corner nonstop - etc., etc., etc.

Who would have thought you'd need secretarial experience with RA. All the calls & time it's mind boggling. I think I have enough experience to put it on my resume.
Shaf, well wow. I'm so sorry for your lose. Can be scarey not knowing what's really for the best. You gave it a shot & now you know.
When on route let me know I'll be ready. Maybe we can swing through Hickville for Blue & hit that Dairy Queen along the way.

wish I wasn't in this club either. But, let's all face it. If it weren't this club, it'd be another. One of my dear friends has crohns. several have breast cancer, and one has no idea what she has and is beside herself trying to figure it out. Disease clubs are no fun. :(
