after having RA for 35 years and fighting to keep weight on..i can't seem to take any off i look at food and gain 5 lbs...
Well I hope you get your weight under control it is extremely important to keep your weight as normal as possible make sure you get the proper protein also; and the Vit D!!!
Wishing you luck and health.
I gained 80 lbs on prednisone, and lost most of it, regained a bit, and working on the last 15. One pound a week, counting every calorie and regular exercise. I wouldn't care, but I also have liver issues from mthx, and high blood pressure and weight loss is supposed to help both.
At my doc's recommendation, I now use NutriBiotic rice protein (I get it at Vitamin Shoppe), and I highly recommend it. It's Vegan, processed from whole-grain brown rice, and the only other ingredient is natural vanilla flavor. Oodles of easily digestible protein with almost 0 carbs/sugars/fats. TONS cheaper than premade drinks as well. It's not designed as meal replacement (no vitamins, etc.), but it's a great supplement. I mix a few tablespoons with milk or unsweetened rice milk or almond milk. NOTE: If you significantly increase your protein intake, be sure to get plenty of veggies and water to avoid constipation.
The bottom line, I suppose, is that neither being significantly underweight nor overweight is any fun. Both require dietary restrictions to try to deal with the issue as best as possible. Both can put the heart and joints at further risk. Neither group can just "eat what they want." Hang in there everybody!
