My dear late brother-in-law was found to have an extremely rare condition called hypokalemic periodic paralysis. The common presentation is to wake up paralyzed after eating a big, high carb dinner. For unknown reasons, all the carbs cause potassium levels to plummet. A trip to emergency, an IV of potassium, you sashay on home. My BIL had a more chronic form that caused chronic weakness in his legs. It is hereditary, but it ran on the side of his family he had little contact with. Found out about it at a cousin's wedding, and bingo!
You would most likely know if you had family members with this, but I keep thinking this is something you should know about if yours keeps dropping like a stone with no discernable cause.
I believe I mentioned before that one of my relatives meds was affecting his potassium-a laxative meds-so it had to be cut back ...so perhaps your dr needs to look at your other meds and see if one could be affecting your potassium levels?
