Welcome to our support group, but not to RA! I had forgotten that mthx can also affect men and that they have to go off of it. So what are you taking instead? Can you take Sulfasalazine? It was not quite as good as mthx, but in combo with a biologic, it was ok.

I hope you get your system cleared out soon and your wife conceives, so that you can go back on mthx.

Doc put me on plaquenil but it does not work as well has the Mthx did.

Hey good luck to you & your wife! In regards to Plaquenil, it's like this has been pretty much the standard response (at least on this forum) on it's efficacy. I wonder if it just takes a long while to kick in?

I happened to be reading through the MTX info today - I recently restarted MTX and humira after a time off them, and am having something I was thinking may be a side effect.

But, anyways, the info reviews the "reproductive" risks and includes a warning that pregnant or nursing women should not even handle the medication since it may be absorbed through the skin. Though prob not much of a concern at RA doses -- something to keep in mind if /when pregnancy is successful and you are able to resume taking MTX.

Plaquinil works on mild symptoms. Fatigue and achy feelings. It can take up to six months to work. But usually works in like 2-3 months. If I try to go off it or forget to take it for a day. I can feel the difference in the next two days.
That's how it works for me. It's not a great fix.
