This is kinda of funny but not when you are in pain....
My rhuemy switched me from MTX pills to injections. I went to the pharmacy and picked up my MTX vial went home and realized I had no way to inject it. They did not give me any needles!
I went back and explained my situation but the pharmacist said the kind of needles I required would have to have a prescription from my doctor. This was on Thursday night so I called my docs office the next day and left a message for them to call the pharmacy. Well you know how those things go, it did not get done on Friday so I had to wait until Monday.
I called the docs office again on Monday and sent her a message on My Chart which gets checked several times a day. End of day Monday I called the pharmacy to see if they had my syringes. NO they had not heard from the doc.
Tuesday morning I call the docs pager and she calls me back and says she will call it in right then. I called the pharmacy they did get the order but it will have to be ordered and will be there on Wednesday evening.
I go Wednesday evening to pick them up and the wrong syringes were ordered, they did not have the correct measurements on them. They reordered them again, I go back Thursday evening and finally picked them up.
By this time I am 7 days past my due date for my injection but I have a dinner to go to so I decided to wait until Friday evening to take my injection. Well...guess what?? I go to fill the syringe and discover there are NO NEEDLES on the syringes!! How can you inject with no needles?
I go to the pharmacy (Walmart) with the syringes and ask the pharmacist about the missing needles. He laughs and says "OH MY guess you can't inject with no needles!!" So he says he will have to order the needles to fit the syringes, won't be there until the following Tuesday.
He then gives me two syringes which look like darts, they are HUGE but he says it's all he has..and he says the measurements on the syringes are not right but he shows me ABOUT where I should fill them with the MTX!! He's guessing and trying to show me......
SO after all of this now I will have to wait until Monday to call my Rhuemy and get her to call in the correct syringes.... I am swelling, all of my fingers look like purple grapes,I can barely open my mouth because of the pain in my jaw bone, I can barely walk on my ankles and my wrists feel broken.

Interesting how state laws differ. I live in a state with a high rate of heroin use. During the worst of the AIDS epidemic, laws were passed so anyone can buy needles from a pharmacist without a prescription. Clean needles = less disease transmission. Makes it really nice for those of us on mtx, insulin, people wanting to inject tiny bits of glue into crafts projects, etc.
Here's what I really don't get: how the heck is someone with RA hands supposed to put together their own needle/syringe combo? Most of us really don't need that type of crafts project!
Here is the ones I use:
BD Insulin Syringe 1mL (Doses up to 100 units), 12.7mm, 30g (gauge). You can get them in a bag of 10 or box of 100 it all depends on how the doctor writes it for you and of course your insurance.
i used to get the insulin size ones for the mtx from cvs with the script - if out i used to ask for one at the doctor's office.
and alto is right i looked like a fool tjust trying trying to do the prep/fill part of the meds themselves no less the needle insertion (my hands and wrists suck)
just for this weekend- have any family members with diabetes? goddess, we have to send you huffing for needles...if I lived near Conway SC I think I have a sealed package from the mtx injectable days, but you are not in my commuting range
