Add some Prilosec to your diet ;).

I am on Celebrex, so I take a generic/prescribed omeprazole (Prilosec). Ask your doc and you can likely get it for cheap if you have prescription drug coverage.

I have nausea especially if the neck pain gets bad, I have a medication to settle my stomach when I need it. Vomiting was one of my symptoms prior to the pneumonia.

I mostly used time release name brand Minocin, the one time I went generic I had a full body super flare within weeks.

The time release version is primarily absorbed all along your small intestines (it little granules) while the generic powder will impact the stomach lining more. Try taking them with a full meal and never at night.

Wouldn't recommend prilosec or any of the 24 hour acid meds. Prolonged use thins your bones. I'm now prone to stress fractures in feet after just 2 years on them. Pepto bismal is a safer alternative since you can't take anything calcium based or it binds up the Minocyclin. I've also found that chewing gum helps even more with heartburn - since your saliva is a naturally alkaline solution.

Ok great thanks guys!! 2scicrazed I can't seem to get the brand name Minocin just generic unfortunately :( I have just been using Ginger and Slippery Elm but when it gets really bad I've been using Pepto Bismol as it works fast and fully. I tried the PPI drugs but since they lower my acid level it leaves at risk for H-Pylori bacteria infection and I get indigestion from lack of acid breaking down my foods...........I may try to switch to a different generic brand and see if it's better......and like you said maybe with food.......I guess I was worried I wouldn't get the full absorption with food but some is better then none. Feeling really good since the past 6 weeks or more now on it.......actually the constant pain is gone!!!! Just some discomfort with movement but tolerable enough that I can go back to exercises.......I can't complain really.........:) Seeing Rheumy later in the month......

The only foods you have to avoid when you take it are calcium rich foods. Tetracyclines bind with Ca. That's why children's teeth can turn colors from taking it.

A fiber rich food would probably work well. Fruits and veggies.

Glad to hear you've been able to manage the indigestion.

Have you talked to big pharmacies like Walmart, CVS, or walgreens? Those ones can usually order the name brand. That's what I had to do when I was still on it and it became scarce. My mom has also ordered it from Canadian mail order pharmacies at a fraction of the price.

I never really had GERD or symptoms of GERD before but they did start actually after my first dose of Minocycline, I hate to stop it, because after my first two weeks of using it my intense pain symptoms lessened off to the point I did't need any further anti inflammatories. Maybe coincidence?? Not sure. But I did get my family dr to screen me for Celiac. If the test comes back negative then I will eliminate gluten for the most part, I do feel better when I eat less of it. Perhaps the minocycline and gluten don't do well together?? I guess in the end the better the diet that better off i will be.
Yes I added in a probiotic just need to remember to get it into me.......hahaha
I didn't do well witht he PPI's drugs, they seemed to make me worse. I read recently that GERD wasn't actually caused by too much acid production but literally not enough. I love this site!!

Would be very interested in trying the brand name Minocin instead of the generic without all it's fillers.
So looking for this drug in Canada has proven to be difficult......if anyone knows of a company that is still selling it in Canada I would sure appreciate knowing :)
