Hello everyone I have been going to see my orthropedic docter because of lots of knee pain he mentioned about a shot called hyalvonic acid injection I am very new to this injection have anyone had this injection or Know someone who had it also having lots of back pain the docter want to inject my back do not know what to do

I believe it's hyaluronic acid.

I had severe OA in my knee, and after steroid injections did nothing, I tried the HA injections. For my knee, it was a series of 3 injections, I think separated by 1 week. The theory is that it will coat the joint and act like cartilage. Didn't work, so I ended up getting a total knee replacement. And now I've gone and had another TKR. This one was healing slowly, so I had fluid removed, and steroid injected in the fluid space. It's working well.

I had an injection of syn-visc in my bad knee. It was better for a month, then got worse again. I was going to get a knee replacement, but the knee improved. Mine was more about an inflamed ligament. Once it calmed down and finally healed, most of the pain is gone, despite that there is a lot of OA damage. I'm opting out of surgeries.

If you get this done, I would be interested to hear how it went.

Marlene, you got syn-visc for an inflamed tendon? I don't understand. OA, yes, but not tendons. Did you have an MRI?

Oh, I have loads of OA in every joint! And my knee was deemed bad enough to require surgery. The Syn-Visc was supposed to see if I could avoid surgery. There must have a lot of OA pain, when combined with the tendon pain it was worse. It worked for a month. Then stopped. But after that, almost a year after the tendon flare started, it finally stopped hurting.

My knees are a mess, but compared to my feet and hands, I almost don't notice pain in my knees at all, just like the other knee that has bad OA and I don't feel it.

Something about OA pain doesn't bother me. Maybe if it gets really severe, it will get it replaced. But for me, I'm not getting any surgery as long as I don't hurt! My rheumatologist told me that, and he was right!

As to why the Syn-Visc worked. I have no idea. Placebo effect? Lubricated the knee enough? I'm just glad it no longer hurts like it did!
