I hope you feel some improvement soon. I think I started noticing a difference sometime during my second month on Humira. However, the change was not dramatic -- I slowly got better over the weeks and months until one day I realized that I had walked up and down some stairs several times with no problem.

I took MTX for 4 months (increasing the dose each month) before adding Humira. After a couple of years on the Humira/MTX combo, I was able to reduce the MTX little by little, and now I'm taking just the Humira every 2 weeks.

I will take my 4th shot of Humira this week. So far I seem to be the same , no better. I talked to a girl today and she said it takes longer than Enbrel to work for her. She said to hang in there because it really helped her so much. (of course we know people are different.) I may talk to my rheumy about going once a week for awhile too. When I started Humira I was having a really bad flare and was on prednisone and Vicodin for about a month....so I don't know how long it took to start working.....but I do feel better with it.....if I'm late taking it I can tell I get really stiff and sore, and the morning after my shot I feel better.

I did go up to once a week shots because I had to go off methotrexate for a while.....but then I got back on methotrexate and went back to taking Humira every other week....my rheumatologist wanted me to stick with only the Humira, but I HATE those injections and insisted on going back to methotrexate. Now that they have the manual injection I want to try that...I heard that because you can inject slower than with the pen that it hurts less.....

I did weekly shots of humira, it helped, just not enough. It'd only last for about 5 days. We moved on to enbrel (then remicade... then orencia)

Very good questions and I hope you begin to feel better soon. i was on Humira several years ago and I felt a difference immediately. It worked for about 9 months and then I crashed and had a bad flare. I have been on several biologics and now am on Rituxan which seems to work. I was only on Humira once a month, but I do know that Enbrel has been given weekly or every two weeks so that sounds plausible to take Humira in the same fashion since they are similar. Hope that works for you.

I only started Humira a couple of months ago. I went cold turkey off my mtx. I think I got lucky because the Humira worked that week (first shot - or maybe the mtx was carrying me??).

Thanks, everyone! I am also tapering prednisone. Really, I just want something to kick in so I can get rid of the prednisone! I am alternating 7.5mg and 5mg every other day. I'm supposed to go down to 5mg daily next week but with the amount of pain I'm in right now, I'm not sure I'll be able to.

Hopefully the Humira will kick in after my fifth shot this Friday!

I was on Enbrel for 18 months and it sort of helped. I am now on Humira and it took 2 to 3 months to work. I cannot take methotrexate. I am on arava (which upsets my stomach) plaquenil, ambien, and fentanyl. Not fun, but it helps.

I have been on Humira for several months now. I do a shot every 2 weeks. I was one of the lucky ones that saw some improvement quickly. Although it could have been the MTX or Plaquenil or a combo of all the above. I am a nurse and work 12 hr shifts and it is bearable now. I still have some bad days, but my bad days now are better than my best days before treatment. Hope this helps.
