I've been wearing wrist braces and have now
bought two different brands that I am allergic
to. It's the inside material that lays against
your skin. It seams to be a rubbery type material
and it makes me crazy from itching and a nasty
rash that breaks out on my skin. This doesn't
surprise me because I am also allergic to tape
materials and metals.
So I am going to make my own and could use alittle
advice if anyone has ideas or gripes about theirs.
I have a website that I sell my artwork and other
things I make and if there is a want or need for
special adjustsments to braces I could make and
sell them for us.
I personally hate the looks of them and because
most of them have velcro closures the material
the velcro sticks to also attracks everything in
the house. I always have dog hair on mine so
before I do any food related things I have to
clean my braces which is a pain.
I like my brace to go around my thumb and cover
the top of my hand and then go around my wrist.
I don't like it to cover the palm of my hand or
other fingers because it gets wet when I wash
dishes and annoys me doing other projects.
Is there any reason the braces need to be made
of a stretchy material? I would appreciate your
advice. Thank you.:)

if you want a hard molded plasticy tupe prace - Occupational therapists will work with that molded material that stays soft when they heat it, and then it molds to your hand while they are custom making you a brace, it's just that the harder the material the more atrophy inside that brace. but if you really want a complete resting brace let an OT make it for you. ask the RA to give you a prescription for OT.
if you forge ahead and make a home made one, that's neat also, let us know what materials you end up using.

the thumb part does not make enough of the material velcro is supposed to stick TO so there's a flap that catches on everything when my thumb is adjusted right.
