Had the "big" surgery Thurs and lived to tell the tale. Downsides thus far sore throat from anesthesia ( I thought it was just a shot and a gas mask of some sort) but I guess they ram something down down your throat into the lungs and my throat is so sore. Next hurdle & BELIEVE me me when I use the word hurdle is being FACE DOWN 20 hours a day, this is a bitch. I am a back sleeper and I don't think I've had a full night sleep since Thurs. I don't think anyone listened when I said I am allergic to latex bandages and when they took off the first bandage it took skin and an eyebrow with it; so today I am just a full on whiny bitch. All of my friends are kicking in with food preparation and by hubby is doing 5 different eye drops 5 times a day and giving me my meds; I known how incredibly lucky I am, but some how the whiny bitch is in the forefront, poor pitiful me! Now after spitting it out maybe I can shut it and be happy I still have an eye. I go back to the retinologist Thursday to see if he saved the day! I'd lie to thanks all of my DS friends for your encouragement and support. Trish

Oh Trish....that sounds miserable! I hope you get to recovering soon!! That sore throat from being intubated is horrible and couldn't imagine having to be face down for 20 hours a day. My back would be killing me. Are you allergic to all latex or just the latex adhesive? I seem to be allergic to adhesive too...I develop blisters.

I have been intubated in surgery, and yes, I thought I would cough up my throat...only to have the nurse say to not cough! The really bad thing is I have had 4 others surgeries where my throat did not hurt at all...I guess it just depends on how you are doing whether they 'tub you. I guess?!?!
Hope you are feeling better....and can lay on your side, at least, by now!

Hey Trish,

It sounds like a pretty rough day for you. I hope the eye doc did his/her magic and is helpful to you.

You are fortunate to have such a good support system!

I was bothered by the twenty hours a day laying on your stomach. Whoa, that scares me to even think about. I have back issues and have slept every night on my back for years.

Personally, I would need to be knocked out just to do this simple request.

Well they had added a Xanax along with the Norco, both every 4 hours so hopefully this will knock my on my can! My eye seems to be in recovery, I can see more out of it today. Now I just need the skig to grown back onto my forehead, I am hoping against hope my eyebrow grows back, it got pulled out by the roots. If not I'll get one tattooed. Where there is vanity there is an answer. Just took the drug explosion and we shall see what happen. Hope you all have a great week. I go back to retinologist Friday

Wow Trish you have been through a lot. Hope you are on the mend soon and that your sore throat feels better as well. It's okay to whine. You have been through a lot. Hope you are seeing brighter days soon.

Hopefully, you are feeling better soon. It sounds like you went through a tough road, and then not to be able to get truly comfy to get your sleep has to be making you feel worse.

My father in law had a procedure with similar recovery plan. He had had his cataracts removed and developed an air bubble in one eye and was at risk for retinal detachment. Face down for 6 weeks. He was miserable, wouldn't let anyone come see him.
We got him a small tablet that fit under his pillows so he could watch netflix and hulu plus
