I ran 3.1 miles yesterday!! I have been on Humira only for 3 weeks (2 injections). I got immediate relief (the next day) and began back at the gym slowly right after that. The neuropathy is being controlled with Gabapentin so my foot pain is gone. ALL the swelling in my hands and knees are GONE. I am completely pain free and I have gone from not being able to walk a block or walk downstairs 5 weeks ago to running 3.1 miles!
I hope to be able to transition from the treadmill to hard surface running and with my Dr.s approval I may try a 5k this spring.
I thought I would never see this again!

Keep the faith people. With the right meds you can get relief!

Wow people on the board feeling better, its about time. It's so great hearing you guys feel better. I always told you guys we were not doomed people, even though it feels that way some days. We DO get better with the right meds. We CAN live a normal life.

You be careful, running is a hard on your knees. If your feeling any pain do not push yourself. Have fun but listen to your body! Yeah the mom in me is talking. =)

I hope you get years and years of relief with Humira! Keep an eye on germs (wipe carts down before you use them) so you never have a reason to skip.

thanks everybody. Yes listening to my body is crucial. I do a scan as I run "do my feet hurt?" "Is it pain or discomfort?" push through the discomfort but stop as soon as I feel pain. Right now I am only stopping because I'm worn out and sweating like crazy. I was never a long distance runner, 3-5 miles is my limit. I just can't believe 5 weeks ago I couldn't walk around the block or down stairs to this.
I am noticing now that I'm on the Humira and 20 mg MTX that my hair is shedding like crazy but otherwise no serious side effects. The Dr. liked my bloodwork last week and I don't have to go back for 6 weeks. So my wishes and prayers are for relief for everyone that i am finding now. peace, blessings to you all.

I know the combo is supposed to help but I would take the absolute least MTX you can. (yes, I'm still on the soapbox) If you know it's the humira helping, would your doctor allow you to reduce the MTX to get to just a few pills a week instead of the large dosage you are taking. It's still suppressing your immune system, but if the Humira is the key, then you may not need that high of a dose of MTX.

You take 8 pills? Can you go down to 5? :)

I know you are just now getting your legs back. (figurative and literally)

Hi Bcatz. At the next appt in March I am going to ask about reducing the MTX. I thought the same thing as you. If the Humira is working so well I want to try to reduce the MTX. I'm pretty sure she will agree. We are working on this as a team and she is very supportive of my decisions.
