Rheumatoid Arthritis Support Group
Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic, inflammatory, multisystem, autoimmune disorder. It is a disabling and painful condition which can lead to substantial loss of mobility due to pain and joint destruction. The disease is also systemic in that it often also affects many extra-articular tissues throughout the body including the skin, blood vessels, heart, lungs, and...
Steroids were also prescribed but the directions for taking them wasn't correct so it didn't work...got me thru until my RD appt. however.
I don't know the difference in meds for fibro vs RA. Perhaps they are different and you'll find something that will help. Did you ask your pcp what you can take while you wait for your rheumy appointment?
When I was first diagnosed, I could barely walk because my feet hurt so badly. I dropped everything because my hands hurt so badly. I couldn't turn a single door knob. I was in tears all the time from the pain. Everything hurt even bed sheets. Every part of me hurt and I was completely exhausted. I had to sit down and rest every few minutes. It was so hard.
Plaquenil and lots of ibuprofen helped me at first. Then I added methotrexate. I eventually didnt need the ibuprofen anymore. So far that gives me enough relief. I hope you find what works for you. Try to stay strong until you get help. Hugs.
When I was first diagnosed in fall of 2013 I was in so much pain that my PCP put me on Prednisone until I could get in with Rheumie (took 3 months!). The course of steroids was very helpful for my Rheumie to help diagnose my RA even though I also had lab work numbers thru the roof. But seeing how quickly I reacted to Prednisone helped the equation also.
I'm so sorry you are in so much pain. I hope they give u something very quick to help you! We are here for you, you are not alone with this. Gentle hugs to you.
I wouldn't mess with the ER since prednisone and anti-inflammatories are really the ticket and your PCP already has the diagnosis. That doesn't mean the ER is not the right place sometimes. Just would be worth getting pred first.
