we had to put our old cat down this last summer and I knew I wanted another.... hubby kept saying go to the shelter and get a lovey cat. Well I never did... then one day my daughter brought me home a cat that needed a home.... she is 6 and lovey and oh so little, I always had male cats that were huge and she is so tiny. So I have the little female and my daughter took the huge brother.
I think she likes her new home and the fact that her brother isn't here to pick on her.

but of course, we still have three ridiculous cats. my oldest is 9, the middle one is 7.5, and my youngest is 3. he's the only boy now, and he's a monster at 16 pounds (down from his high of 19!) we're pretty sure he's part bengal based on his stature and markings. and how much he eats lol.
I lost my favorite almost 3 years ago. She was 15, tiny at only 3.2 pounds and always looked like a kitten. We had to have her put to sleep for renal failure/infection. She was my shadow and loved only me. She was 3 pounds of pure evil to everyone else but I loved her.
To these three we can add in our dog. She is a 75 pound husky/malamute who thinks she is a lap dog! She is 8 years old. I can't imagine a home without animals!
my family used to have a rottie. she developed lymphoma just before her fifth birthday. because it's not curable, we opted against treatment because of quality of life. we kept her comfortable until the cancer moved into her spine. then we did the humane thing.
Anyways, daughter got married and moved out, and while buying a house etc we kept Nala with us. He got use to a house with 2 adults no kids for about 6 months. I begged daughter to let me keep him and she could get a kitten, by this time Nala was 2.... well he moved in with her and about 1 year later daughter and granddaughter were sleeping and the cat attacked the baby, biting her head, then attacked daughter.... then attacked Son inlaw.... he wouldn't stop attacking so they ended up putting him down... vet said he had a brain tumor
Has anyone ever heard of a very nice cat going crazy like that?
They are great company because when I am in a lot of pain they come and sit with me and seem to understand what I need. They love the electric blanket also. They are great company. Pets can be very therapeutic. I had a Jack Russell terrier but had to find him a new home due to I couldnt keep up with his walks and stuff in the morning due to pain. Plus he would always get his leash caught around the tires of my wheelchair. I wish I had a yard so I could have a puppy.
Coke-a-cola, a big, fat, long haired calico - is a dog at heart. Likes to come in house, but will scratch at door to be let out to go potty. We think her brain and our rat terrier's was swapped at birth since that dog acts like a cat.
Every one came from a pound or a kind hearted veterinarian.
Good to see so many cat lovers here!
we once trapped a couple of stray cats to bring them to the town shelter. they gave the cats rabies shots and spayed/neutered them for free - then we brought them back and released them to their 'home turf'. i felt good helping.
I've been known to ride a horse to town and go through McDonalds drive thru....
